Re: What are you Watching?

Yes, I own Night is Short, Walk on Girl. :D I also just received Tatami Galaxy in the mail, so I'm about to start on that now, finally.

Re: What are you Watching?

Lu Over the Wall. Good fun film, basically Ponyo for a 13 and up set. Although I still miss the days when the anime industry used to pump out dark, stylishly violent theatrical action films, I think Masaaki Yuasa is my favorite of the current anime "film" directors. He just has a quirky experimental...

Re: What are you Watching?

Yeah, it's a pretty by-the-numbers story and by-the-numbers use of tropes outside of the lesbian angle. I doubt many people in Japan batted an eye.

Re: What are you Watching?

Yeah, it's an overused plot device. I think a lot of it has less to do with the taboo factor and more to do with a way to get multiple scenes between two characters together in the same house to keep the story progressing. It's cheap and lazy but given the amount of key story points that happen "at ...

Re: Rumiko Takahashi to start new manga Spring 2019

I would also like to add, in addition to my above post, that despite Rumiko Takahashi being one of the most purely commercially driven manga artists in Japan, she also happens to still be, on a purely technical level, one of the greatest comic artists in the world. You are never "lost" while reading...

Re: What are you Watching?

So I finished watching Citrus, the anime. I've been reading what other people thought of it online and I have to say I'm slightly amused that so much ink has been spilled on it, both positive and negative. I do feel that Citrus is a case of an anime simply coming out at the right place in the wrong ...

Re: Rumiko Takahashi to start new manga Spring 2019

I wish she'd do something with a clear ending in mind. Maison Ikkoku is bar none her best, by a huge margin IMHO. The others just drag. One day I'll go through Urusei Yatsura. About 2/3 through Ranma TV. I have long said that Takahashi, as far as her shounen work is concerned, writes excellent sitc...

Re: What are you Watching?

Watching Hyouka right now. Well crafted stuff from KyoAni as expected. Yet another school show, but the gimmick of it being built around solving mysteries from a literary standpoint is fairly highbrow for this genre. Most people would find this show a little dry, but some of the stories are really w...

Re: Kyoto Animation studio fire

A few names are out now, some really good veteran talent. Yasuhiro Takemoto, Naomi Ishida and Sachie Tsuda to name ones I've seen.

Takemoto of course co-directed the Haruhi series. I was a big cheerleader for Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya in here a couple of years ago.

Re: What are you Playing?

For some reason I've been on this big Vita kick the past few months. Granted, I finally just got it earlier this year now that it's all but dead, but it's so convenient and has so many neat features and portability for someone who's more on the go. I've already got like 20 games downloaded onto my m...
