Re: Oldschool OVAs You Wish Were Completed

Well, there was a later Giant Robo TV series, wasn't there? I always thought the "preview" at the last episode of GR was more of a nod to its serial nature. Kinda like Star Wars starting at episode 4 originally--it was meant to evoke the feeling of old serials how you sort of jump in and out of a se...

Re: Discotek have found Project A-ko master reel!

The last DVD was still watchable, but you can definitely see the colors aren't as deep as they should be, nor is the linework as clear, especially by modern standards.

Re: Discotek have found Project A-ko master reel!

I also wonder what the Japanese reaction is to this news. Surely there are many fans of A-Ko still in Japan?

Re: Discotek have found Project A-ko master reel!

AMAZING news! I knew there had to be some sort of print out there, but a master reel is better than I could have hoped for.

Re: Amazon developing live-action Hellsing based on the manga

Confession--I don't really like most of the Marvel/DC movies. They're too machine-like and factory-manufactured for my liking. But, its success is that it pleases the fanbase, and the general public likes them, which is what counts. Comic book superhero movies didn't take off until Hollywood underst...

Re: Amazon developing live-action Hellsing based on the manga

I think the difference is the fanbase. Anime/manga fans don't really watch and read anime and manga to want American live action versions of them. Anime fans at most view Hollywood anime adaptations with curiosity, but it's nothing close to a reaction like "OMG the new Avengers movie. MUST WATCH." T...

Re: What are you Watching?

FLCL Alternative--Haven't watched Progressive yet but finished this, which I enjoyed OK. In truth, I wasn't a HUGE FLCL fanboy back in the day (I liked it well enough, I just didn't LOVE it) so I really don't notice much difference in quality between the original and this sequel at least. Apparently...

Re: What are you Watching?

Grey: Digital Target is one I've always wanted to get around to. I've always been attracted to those kind of nomadic-looking anime heroes. Maybe Discotek should pick it up, if they haven't already. Anyway, I'm watching Noein, which I'd constantly see on DVD shelves back in the day, but never picked ...

Re: Amazon developing live-action Hellsing based on the manga

I'm trying to think of an anime/manga-to-live action property that was an absolute success and I can't think of any. Battle Angel and Speed Racer have their cult fans but I don't think they are considered unqualified successes by the mainstream either.

Re: Your favorite sport manga

In general, realistic-settling sports manga still don't sell as well as a standard shounen battle series or a shoujo school romance. It seems the sports manga that do best are those that are plotted and drawn like a battle manga.
