Re: The Anime Nostalgia Podcast & Blog

I wish they (Hatsune Miku?) gave out honorary old-school-anime doctorates, because you deserve one -- 105 months of anime podcasting for anime-local fame is a very old-school attitude now, as modern social media is more like traditional broadcast media where it's all about metrics rather than being...

I DO know that you can see it (unwrapped, out of the package, at least) in that long pan shot of Noriko with all the snacks in Gunbuster, at least!

Re: When did Pocky become associated with anime fans?

Pocky was common enough among late 1980s anime fans - in my circles anyway - that people made referential jokes and cartoons about it. If you're having a bunch of friends over to watch anime, you'll probably stop off at the Japanese grocery store for snacks, and a box of Pocky usually finds itself ...

Re: When did Pocky become associated with anime fans?

Good question. I am without a clue on this. I think I have seen Pocky, but not in any of the anime I have. Then again, I lean towards Science Fiction, so no surprise there. I specifically remember seeing it in CLAMP works, like X/1999 and such, tho I'm sure there's plenty of other examples I'm just...

Re: When did Pocky become associated with anime fans?

I think it became a North American otaku snack favorite when fans started seeing them pop up in the "Asian" sections of their grocery stores & recognizing the snack from its many cameos in anime & manga. I know the 1st time I ever saw it in my local grocery store was probably aroun...

Re: The old-school anime DVD/BD news thread.

Sentai announced they've picked up 1997's Hareluya II Boy (aka Hallelujah II Boy), which they'll put up streaming as well as doing a home video release later: https://www.sentaifilmworks.com/a/news/sentai-acquires-hareluya-ii-boy I've always been curious about this one, I never saw it back in the day.

Re: What are you Watching?

Gkids sent me a review copy of their Future Boy Conan BD, since I asked about it for the podcast, so I've been watching the dub! I somehow had missed that OCEAN was dubbing it, and so far the dub is really solid!

Thanks, Drew! Glad you're enjoying it!
