Re: The old-school anime DVD/BD news thread.

Pre-orders for part 1 of Turn A Gundam is up now! http://www.rightstuf.com/catalog/browse/link/t=item,c=right-stuf,v=right-stuf,i=rsdvd1544,a=anime-nostalgia-podc Gotta say, I was expecting it to be more expensive! Good on TRSI for keeping the cost reasonable. That price is ridiculously low, especi...

Re: RIP - Aging Otakus No Longer With Us

I think a thread like this would be missing something if nobody mentioned...

Steve "Otaking" Pearl

and

Toren "Smith Toren" Smith

Both were hugely influential in their own ways and both died too young. Take care of yourself, guys, mentally and physically.

Re: Gundam Unicorn

While Unicorn is no Zeta/CCA, and never will be, its the best thing since. The true power of Laplace's Box is far more interesting than I thought, and this episode leads to all sorts of fan speculation on things, much like CCA did.

The last episode is 90 min, btw.

Re: 1993

Let's see... In 1993, I think, I bought the US Manga Corps LD of Project A-Ko. I ordered a lot of stuff from places like Nikaku Animart, which is evidently still in business, and a bunch of places now long gone. Image Anime, Books Nippon, JAM Group, etc. I didn't have a tape trading hookup back then...

Re: What are you Watching?

Thanks, Ilj. Everything I read about Gunbuster 2 from respectable sources tells me that the show is not worth a purchase. It seems that Gunbuster 2 is just a product of the current generation of anime, fluff over substance, and it fails to grasp what is truly great about anime (or how great anime u...

Re: The old-school anime DVD/BD news thread.

I bought Honneamise on laserdisc four times. Memorial Box, TV Size, AC-3 CLV version, AC-3 Memorial Box version.

I will buy this again on an American BR as long as it isn't too expensive.

Re: Animerica - Your thoughts, first experience, etc.

It was probably the Mega CD game. The Sega Saturn didn't come out until late 94 in Japan and mid 95 in the US. Judging from the timeline of your story, quantified by Animerica issues, there was no Saturn then.

Re: Animerica - Your thoughts, first experience, etc.

I had issue #1 but couldn't get issue #0. My comic shop...kinda sucked. I read Animerica along with Anime UK and Protoculture Addicts pretty regularly. Good times. The best thing about Animerica was the Shogakukan and Viz connections. That was also the worst thing about it though. When they started ...

Re: The truth about Tenchi Muyo!

$35 for an OVA episode is actually really cheap. Some episodes of Giant Robo were $100 each in Japan. Tenchi Muyo was about $50 there and it was a budget release. It's still a budget release. Japanese copies of TM OVA are basically free now, like 35 yen or something. Not sure if you guys can see th...
