Re: What are you Watching?
ONLY YESTERDAY is a premium film. I dig it all the way. I waited for years for a US release, but threw up my hands and got the UK DVD this year. Was glad I did.

Re: Viz Survey
The Ranma entry on this survey jumped out at me, too. Viz are rolling it out on several platforms (blu-ray, DVD reissue, Neon Alley, and probably a VOD streaming option too) and will probably watch how it performs with great interest. I'm hoping they'll do a rescue of Maison Ikkoku if it does well ...

Re: Hello from Japan
Welcome, Kei! I also convert/preserve VHS tapes-- I enjoy searching for anime dubbed in English, from long ago. This is what I use.

"Someone" my foot! Viz are moving offices this week. If I was in SF, I'd have gone over there.

Re: The old-school anime DVD/BD news thread.
And here's where I get back to that 'playbook'. Now that Kozo Morishita has had this project reach market (regardless if he's still attached, or dead, or whatever) it is forever enshrined at Toei as "the way to do things in America".

Man, the Pierrot majokko show I want the most is Magical Emi. I hope they make it to that one.

Re: The old-school anime DVD/BD news thread.
Anyone here who gets Harlock first, tell us about the DVD quality. I've heard that a few Discotek releases lately have had some minor annoyances.

Re: What are you Watching?
I'm guessing these Gaiking films are episodes condensed to films? Because the pacing is really off to be regular films. Lol..
Yep. The whole project (which encompasses compilation movies of a variety of Toei shows) was a dumb vanity project of some company exec or another. They did Gaiking ...

Re: What are you Watching?
Just got Shout! Factory's $15 set of 3 GAIKING compilation movies and watched a bit. Amazingly, this new dubbed version (by William Winckler, of TEKKAMAN! THE SPACE! KNIGHT! fame), produced in 2008 or 2009, is every bit as awful and stilted as the old Jim Terry dub of the TV series. Japanese names ...
