Re: My Youth in Anime Mags

Amazon.jp is worth a first look for the product discounts. You can order a lot of the same stuff from CD Japan, but the individual prices will be higher. CD Japan ships via USPS, so that might be a little cheaper, but I find USPS to be so intensely aggravating that I will gladly pay more for DHL sh...

Re: Animerica - Your thoughts, first experience, etc.

I feel soooooo jaded... Animerica just wasn't that big a deal to me. Never really did much other than show me a crapton of stuff I wasn't interested in. Sorry. I'm old. :) Oh, wait, I think it was Animerica that told me Licensed By Royalty was going to be good. They lied. LIED! ARRGGGH DAMN YOU L/R!...

Re: my take on old American anime magazines

Yeah, sadly no one really seems that interested in back issues of old anime mags, esp. American ones. He'd probably have better luck taking them to a swap at an anime/comic con, or something like that. Oh, I have some interest, because I'm OCD about holes in collections, so I'd have to go and...

Re: Newtype Magazine - What was your first experience....

They are all over the house in boxes. Mags from 1980 to the late 1990s. I also have a couple Terebi mags from 1980 and 1981 as well but those are really kiddy stuff. I guess this would be a boon to people looking to translate old articles on subjects they are interested in but I'd have to know what...

Re: My Youth in Anime Mags

Sounds like it's time for some people to start making contacts inside Japan again! I did that through a seller on Ebay about 18 months ago. Now I can order and have shipped anything my little heart desires. Of course, these days there isn't a whole lot I want from Japan anymore. I might want some o...

Re: my take on old American anime magazines

My point was that the publisher of Animerica, Viz, also was the company that dubbed and released Macross II in North America. Struck me as a tad self-serving. Viz released Macross II? I thought that U.S. Renditions/L.A. Hero/Books Nippan did the dubbing and marketing. I'm sure Viz had some skin in ...

Re: S'me.

PS: Sure would be nice if everyone here used their real names. The only ones I can identify are Dave Merrill, Steve Harrison, and Mike Toole. Is everybody else AFRAID to self-identify? I suspect legacy from Usenet and Rec.Arts.Anime. :) You can click on the 'profile' button on the bottom left of a ...

Re: My Youth in Anime Mags

Greetings Steve, Wonderful!! Thanks for sharing your history of anime magazines. How you were able to obtain anime magazines is similar to my involvement with the Japanese music industry and also anime industry. And from one person can lead to a growing relationship with others. Do you still read t...
