Re: What did old-school fans think about digital fansubs?

I'm with you - the preservation game is strong, though right now I am not sure I am preserving too much beyond my own sentiments and nostalgia. I mostly agree that companies aren't really up for straight-up preservation, at least for preservation's sake, unless they can make some money off of it. I...

Re: VHS trading and fansubs in the modern era: Anime Herald

Interesting piece! And I believe it features our own Chibiboi in it! I, personally, would have liked to have seen more about the modern scene (I know I've mentioned it here about me not understanding the resurgence) but I think the piece was well structured for people who could be entirely new to fa...

Re: The Right Stuf International 1995-1996 catalog

these are terrific, thanks for the scans! A real walk down memory lane. Right Stuf sent our convention a literal pallet of catalogs in 1997 or 1998, enough for everyone at our convention to take home one or two. We were, let's say, not really ready for dealing with a pallet - we didn't have a truck...

Re: The lonely wail of unfinished models...

There are two facets of the model building hobby - those who complete models and those who buy models. Everyone in the second group tries to be a member of the first group but more often wind up with their own stashes of un-built or half-built models. I've got a corner of my attic carved out for my ...

Re: Crunchyroll to stop offering free option for newer anime

Following up on a two year old thread - yeah, I noticed not long after they initiated the change, it wasn't just new anime, it was a whole mess of their catalog because I lost access to most of my watchlist. And, since I don't want to pay for another service, I've just given up on CR for now.

Re: Organizing Your Media And Merch

Hardly, I'm sure. I mostly used manga as a way to help learn/practice Japanese and buying Japanese manga often had more hoops than I cared to jump through once I "lost" access to local Japanese bookstores.

Re: Dragon Ball Creator Akira Toriyama Dies at 68

This one hurt a bit. I think partially because of his age but also what Dragonball meant to me as a young anime fan. It wasn't my first anime, or even my first anime that I started deep-diving into or what got me into fansubs. But it was what I was watching that was a confluence of all of that: it w...

Re: Organizing Your Media And Merch

I've been slowly organizing shelves for my manga and books related to manga. I finally made several dedicated shelves to Leiji and Shirato Sanpei. I think I'll do Mizuki Shigeru and then Umezu Kazuo next because I have a wide variety of their stuff including reprints of their earliest published mat...

I have thought about trying to do one about Jarod Nandin, whom I discussed on the forums here when he passed in 2021.
