Re: Fred Ladd Passes at 94

I don't know about that - I don't know a whole lot about Japanese television of the 1960s in general, so I don't know how prevalent the concept of opening or closing themes were, say, compared to US television which was using them in the 50s. I also don't know which anime, in 1963, '64, or even int...

Re: The old-school anime DVD/BD news thread.

Oh, it's been streaming for quite some time! https://www.crunchyroll.com/samurai-troopers Unless you meant the Ronin Warriors version, which I don't know if that will ever be put on streaming...but I guess stranger things have happened, lol. Either way really ^.^ I've been slacking on watching stuf...

Re: Fred Ladd Passes at 94

Safe to say that Fred was one of those foundational blocks that helped put a lot of us onto a path of anime fandom. I think one of my favorite pieces of anime trivia that I remember hearing is that when Tetsuwan Atom aired in Japan, it didn't really feature opening credits and when Ladd was getting ...

Re: The old-school anime DVD/BD news thread.

Most excited for GunBuster and Mamo blu-rays. Hopefully as we get closer to that Samurai Troopers BR set it will get out onto the streaming services and I can prioritize how quickly I am going to try and pick it up. Re: I Was A Teenage Anime Club President

Just curious, which shows popular back then like "Getta Robo" which people mostly got the title wrong? I guess how do you mean "wrong"? Lots of shows prior to the late 1990s got titles modified or changed altogether. Or is there some specific reference I missed in the article? I...

Re: I Was A Teenage Anime Club President

The more things change, the more they stay the same. When I was a teenage anime club president (in the late 90s), we ditched zines and newsletters and working with other clubs (I regret now that I never got out to an Anime X meeting). We kept copying tapes, even if it was at home instead of daisy-ch...

Re: What are you Watching?

Caught the first episode of Acrbunch a few weeks ago - figured I would like it since like J9 and Josephina, it's supposed to be one of Kokusai Eigasha's better productions. At least starts with an interesting premise of world peace, so I'll probably come back to this in a bit. However, like with sta...

Re: How cheap are VHS nowadays and some other questions

I guess that most people don't let go of their anime DVD collection when Blu-Ray became a thing, right? People rarely buy any type of DVD anymore in my country, while music CD are mostly relegated to car entertainment systems. I can't say much for more mainstream collectors, but I imagine that othe...
