Re: I just watched Space Pirate Captain Harlock (2013)

Yes, Shinji Aramaki is a terrible, terrible director. At least; as a director of CG. Lot's of "bullet time" slow-motion, faux-Hong Kong action scenes that seem designed specifically with the intention of being "internationally marketable". Still, he deserves an Anime-pedestal for...

Re: Bani Garu: a webcomic from Lea Hernandez's year at Gaina

The Wings of Honneamise is one of my favourite films, anime or not, of all time. Made at the height of the economic bubble when huge risks were made. Gainax's love of profit soon overshadowed many of their works into the 90's. I still remember my heart sinking when ANN interviewed Hiroyuki Yamaga wh...

Re: Hong Kong Retro Toy Mall

Neat! Those shelves look like they could be found in the Nakano Broadway Building in Tokyo. Those "no photos" rules are pretty lame, huh? I've had lots of places in Tokyo telling me to put my camera away. I usually end up sneakily taking videos anyway. I bet it must burn them to know that...

Hong Kong Retro Toy Mall

I promised sending pictures about a billion years ago; Here they are! Lots of stores state "no photos", so I had to do this covertly for the most part. The retro mall is great; not just for Anime, but plenty of old school Kaiju, Marvel/DC and Japanese Superhero stuff too!

Re: Let's Anime: PlaWres Sanshiro

There's still people downloading it at BakaBT, so its nice to see people are still checking it out. Also: Have $369 US dollars to spare? http://www.ebay.com/bhp/plawres-sanshiro Most of these hyper expensive Sanshiro toys are shipping from Hong Kong, too. I should organize a crew and raid this fello...

Re: Let's Anime: PlaWres Sanshiro

Read it and loved it! When I get back home, I'll post a picture of that great mini handheld Sanshiro game (still in its original packaging) I saw for sale in the Retro-mall I mentioned earlier. PlaWres Sanshiro was much more popular in Hong Kong than it was in Japan, as was Gold-Lightan. Thus, there...

Re: Daisuki.net - Streaming Anime From The JP

I use Hola, which is free and has Chrome and Firefox extensions. I use it almost exclusively for Netflix instant. I recently subscribed to Funimation's streaming service but I can't get it to work very well at all, unfortunately. Part of the problem is the way that Hola works; it has full support fo...

Re: least essential OVAs of the 1980s

Some readers have taken the article to be a list of OVAs I hated, which it isn't, and others thought it was a list of MOST essential rather than the opposite. Reading is fundamental, I guess. Yes, I'm afraid a large swath of the Internet read things as either black or white; anything remotely subtl...
