Re: What are you Watching?

Recently watched Dancouga which was thankfully watchable. Watched it over a few months with a friend which made it easier to get through all 40-odd episodes. But it was not bad! Also watched Goku Midnight Eye on Amazon which was fun. Can't go wrong with Kawajiri. Being a huge Kawajiri fan, I'm asha...

Re: Youtube video "We Have Accepted Mediocrity" snipet focusing on 80s anime

Interesting topic. There's no question that creativity in anime has become stifled over the last decade, if not a bit longer. Certainly, there's been "crap" made long before, and no decade is exempt. (And make no mistake, there's still entertaining anime being produced today.) But from a financial p...

Re: Dragon Ball Z movies coming to theaters this fall!

I ended up going to the Dragon Ball Z: Broly screening earlier tonight. It was very cool seeing a DBZ film on the big screen, despite not being too fond of the later DBZ films. It was the dubbed "remastered" version, meaning they used the Japanese music instead of the American music from the origina...

Re: What are you Watching?

I picked up some anime DVDs fairly cheap last month, which included the Ninja Scroll TV series. So far I'm only on episode 4, but I'm enjoying it. I recall it getting some sour reviews years ago, but I haven't seen anything yet that I disliked. I'm also re-watching Dragon Ball GT. I only viewed the ...

Re: Anime on DVD/BD wishlists

My wishlist mostly consists of out-of-print titles: -Dominion Tank Police (original and "new" series) -Legend of Lemnear -Plastic Little -Birdy the Mighty (OVA) -Madox-01 -Airbats -Guyver: Out of Control (My number one pick, as it never received a DVD release in the USA. The VHS copy is difficult fi...

Re: G Gundam Ultra Edition pre-orders up!

That's a snazzy looking set and whoever thought up the Tequila Gundam shot glass deserves a raise. I love these collectors edition box sets they're doing but, for the sake of shelf space and money, I can't bring myself to "upgrade" beyond my older Bandai Legends sets.

Re: New Discotek announcements: Area 88! Kimagure Orange Road! AND MORE!!

Probably just Area 88 for me. Having had KOR hyped up to the nines to me for years, I was a bit underwhelmed when I finally saw some of it. Great music though. Same here. I picked up a bunch of KOR VHS tapes years ago and finally watched them last summer, but it just didn't live up to the hype for ...

Re: What are you Playing?

Last week I started Resident Evil 7 on the PS4. It's pretty good so far, and extremely atmospheric. I didn't care much for the demo, but the game was cheap so I figured I'd give it a go, and I'm glad I did. It's clear that the RE7 developers were heavily influenced by Konami's infamous Silent Hill d...

Re: My first thought was "Oh no": Hollywood Live-Action Gundam

In theory, Gundam should be one of the more "filmable" anime titles--as opposed to something like Dragon Ball, but I'm sure Hollywood's adaptation will turn out terrible. It'll likely lack all the elements that makes so many of the Gundam entries unique, and instead turn it into some type of Bayform...

Re: Dragon Ball Z movies coming to theaters this fall!

It's pretty awesome that this is happening. Not really a fan of the Broly or Fusion DBZ movies (I preferred the earlier ones), but this will still be worth checking out. Personally, I favor the dubbed versions. I remember having to get subbed copies of the later DBZ movies back in the day, and could...
