Re: How bad would the Corona virus be to the convention scene

As far as I know, there hasn't been an anime convention that's had to make the decision to cancel without a city or state gathering ban already in place. IF, and this is a hypothetical, if a convention was forced to make the decision to shut down without the benefit of force majeure as a cover, the...

Re: How bad would the Corona virus be to the convention scene

The Raleigh Convention Center has barred all events till the end of May, meaning that gets Animazement out of their contract. They say they might "postpone" their con, but I think its inevitable to just move the con till next year, which is fine with me, more money saved. I got a feeling that AWA is...

Re: An index of prominent figures in the early anime fandom?

I remember asking that question to Toshifumi Yoshida years back at Animazement, and from what I gathered he's gotten completely out of the anime industry, but works somewhere in the media market. So in a sense he kinda fell of the radar, and there's no way to get in contact with him afaik. Although ...

Re: Series you think that should had been bigger in the West?

From the late 1990's to early 2010's I enjoyed going into FYE, Suncoast and Coconuts video stores, since that was the main retail hub that carried anime titles. There is an FYE that exist in the Haywood Mall in Greenville, SC, but I rarely go in there since the anime selection is just titles by Funi...

Re: Series you think that should had been bigger in the West?

Mmmmm I'm not sure your facts are in order regarding Lupin III internationally. I have the impression it's pretty big in Italy for example. Tetsujin 28 (which version?) and Golgo 13 are a very curious baseline for what you're asking. How did you come to choose these two titles? Dave will have somet...

Re: rate the dubs

Best overseas dub for me based on what you gave me and ive seen is going to be the Filipino dub to Voltes V. Surprised you didn't add in the obvious Macross Clash of the Bionoids or the Vengence of a Space Pirate/Arcadia of my Youth dub (to me I highly enjoy that dub).

Re: Pirating anime music in the 1980s

Yes i'd say there is still a market for anime soundtracks on vinyl, a small but devoted market. I've been collecting anime vinyls for a couple of years now on top of laserdisc collecting. The guy I ususally go to at cons for this stuff is Otaku Joe's. He sets his price for his stuff and they're usua...

Re: How have the drawings changed over the years?

speaking of CG that didn't age well AND heavy ink lines, we watched the Golgo 13 movie (free on Tubi!) last weekend and 1. the CG helicopters really take the viewer out of the film, and 2. there are gigantic brush lines inking those characters in some shots! The bluray looks phenominal to me person...
