Re: How did Hentai made its way to America?

(On a related question, I have seen in films set in the 1980s America roadside motels that openly promoted they they had porn to show. Was this a thing?) There still adult stores here and there. There is one for example in between Charlotte NC and Greenville SC on I-85 that only has a billboard up ...

Re: 1987 catalog of dreams and VHS tapes

There's some old Laser Perceptions ads in ANIMAG that had prices listed for what they were offering at the time, and one movie, say Crystal Triangle, they wanted $120 for it on LD. I don't think 120 pesos is worth owing Crystal Triangle, then again I did drop money on a VHS copy recently, so I will ...

Re: Cowboy Bebop soundtrack vinyl up for pre-order

Black Screen Records are doing preorders for the album as well, im not sure if its the same record with everything in it or if RightStuf has different packaging to go with theirs. The track numbers are identical so its Milan reaching out to whoever wants to preorder the record on their behalf. https...

Re: WTB/Trade 1986 Newtype Magazines

I've been following the Laserdisc market for a few years now, and it seems those prices have slowly started to get inflated. They got cool stuff like D1 Devastator (which no fansub exists iirc) but the collectors set comes with a soundtrack cd and someone is asking $60 for it. I just got Bad Boys Bo...

Re: Your thought on early American cartoon done by Japanese studios?

Since your talking about co-production series Dave, one that i'd like to see either translated or even a fandub would be Reporter Blues. The theme song is catchy and it just seems like a really cool show to enjoy. I'm not sure if that sucker is tied up in licensing or if its even licensed to begin w...

Re: How long can the craze for a merchandise-driven anime can last?

Pokemon hit the market hard towards the end of 1998. I got my copy of Pokemon Red for Christmas that year, and still have my copy to this day. It really didn't hit full stride till I think spring or summer of 1999. What helped market the show was not just the video games, but the anime that aired w...

Re: How long can the craze for a merchandise-driven anime can last?

It also had the knock-on effect of blowing up anime in the US during the late 90s-early 2000s. Every company wanted to be responsible for bringing the next Pokémon to the US. I don't think I've seen the amount of anime merchandise released for several different properties since that era. All sorts ...

Re: The first instance of sharing anime online

Say, which is the first time you guy used BitTorrent for anime, and the last time you did so? And, are you aware of any series or particular fansub of a show that have been lost online because the Torrent link doesn't work anymore? Do you have any series you want to be rescued from the Torrent grav...
