Re: Some observations and questions about 80s cartoons
I didn't get to watch a lot of cartoons during the 80s because my parents insisted that school and extra-curricular activities came first. The ones I saw were on Saturday mornings during that block. 1) The cartoons I remember are - My Little Pony, Rainbow Brite, Popples, Lady Lovlilocks, Smurfs, Gum...

Re: Berserk Creator Kentarou Miura Passes at 54
Having met Maeda and knowing him fairly well, I'm sorta curious to see what a crossover between the two men would be. Hopefully he'll adopt Maeda's habit of getting flustered when talking about his artwork around women

I was wondering why the rest of the Megazone 23 stickers couldn't be sold from the Kickstarter project and I guess this explains why...

Re: Izumi Matsumoto, KOR creator, passes away at age 61
I've been really heartbroken by this all day. I've met Matsumoto-sensei a couple times at various anime conventions over the years and he is one of the kindest men I have ever met. He was very giving, doing as much as he could for the fans in attendance despite being in pain. He talked about his med...

But you'd have to travel in a group of fans. One guy walking in asking, ey, can I see your old adult VHS tapes, doesn't make for quite the introduction, and al the more reason for the store owner to dial that nine...then a one...and if the creepola starts getting fidgety... Maybe it's because...

You might be able to find some of the issues on Yahoo Japan although you'll need to go through a deputy service to do so as most Japanese sellers will not send abroad.
The shipping will still be pricey but being unfamiliar with how Mandarake is pricing things on eBay, it might ultimately be cheaper.

Have you tried Mandarake? They're a Japan based business that sells all sorts of anime and seiyuu related merchandise.
They have older issues of Newtype as well as most other well known Japanese anime related magazines. The shipping will be pricey, but most Newtype issues are about 500 yen each.

Are you talking about shows on network TV? Afaik Di Gi Charat never aired on TV, or if it did it was through satellite networks maybe. You're forgetting the Escaflowne dub that was on UPN. I want a copy of that to hear how bad it is, because that seems to be the general consensus. You forgot Fighti...

Re: How long can the craze for a merchandise-driven anime can last?
It also had the knock-on effect of blowing up anime in the US during the late 90s-early 2000s. Every company wanted to be responsible for bringing the next Pokémon to the US. I don't think I've seen the amount of anime merchandise released for several different properties since that era. All sorts o...
