Re: Sexism in early anime fandom

To touch on George's reply, fans can be clique-y when it comes to anime. I avoid those people, not because of what they are, they too are fans in general, but because of WHO they are, a group of people who probably aren't interested in forming lasting friendships and relationships that are not in th...

Re: Sexism in early anime fandom

What women anime fans have gone though should most definitely be brought to light, in hopes of better understanding the why, the how and the reasons why they felt the way they did growing up as fans. The predatory stance some took over their gatekeeping of certain aspects of the fandom must have bee...

Re: Sexism in early anime fandom

To be fair, this kind of behavior in women or femme-presenting people is generally due to bad experiences with fans of those things. Especially if they're younger. I ran into older male anime fans who would try to convince young teen gals to watch racey or cheesecake stuff with Very Bad Intentions ...

And I need to proofread more. Sorry about the grammar mistakes, I hope the message still comes across correctly.

Re: Sexism in early anime fandom

Hi all! I am currently working on a project on sexism in early anime fandom, particularly in (but not limited to) online spaces, such as rec.arts.anime and rec.arts.anime.misc. I have already found a lot but I was wondering if anyone remembered any particular instance or event they would like to sh...

Re: New Book Idea - Thoughts and Suggestions Appreciated!

I'm sure, some time down the road from now, anime and manga fans of tomorrow would enjoy reading about what the times were like, of a fandom they're a part of, that's not perpetually everything late 80's and early Nineties, or as far back as the early 60's or 70's. New generations of fans are in the...

Re: How did Hentai made its way to America?

But you'd have to travel in a group of fans. One guy walking in asking, ey, can I see your old adult VHS tapes, doesn't make for quite the introduction, and al the more reason for the store owner to dial that nine...then a one...and if the creepola starts getting fidgety... Maybe it's because...
