Re: What are you Watching?
I had a phase where I absolutely adored One Piece. I'm a sucker for any "found family" dynamic and the whole "nakama" thing in OP is like a pure distillation of that. The bit at the end of Alabasta where Vivi is being left behind and the rest of the cast let her know that she'll ...

Re: Anime nostalgia documentary on YouTube
So it's an interesting video, but in my opinion, the overall tone to the video is wrong. Instead of "You modern anime fans are stupid because the older stuff is better, so here's why," he should probably go for a "Hey, modern anime fans don't seem to really know about or appreciate t...

Re: What are you Watching?
Two "Z" titles stood out for me of my watching this weekend. I'm about halfway through Zegapain and am *loving* it. The sci-fi setup is a cool twist on the Matrix - taking that movie's premise and one-upping it a bit - and I think they're doing a great job balancing the emotional, angstier...

Re: Old Anime VS New Anime
I'm up to episode 12 on Space Brothers and enjoying it... though yes, it has *quite* a slow pace. I was starting to get worried that they'd run out of time to do any actual space stuff, but apparently it's going to be 50-ish eps instead of 26-ish? I agree about Macross F, too. I liked what I've seen...

Re: Old Anime VS New Anime
I guess we're talking about two different anime communities, then. DBZ and Naruto and the like are big sellers because they have brand recognition outside of what I would consider the "anime community" thanks to U.S. TV broadcasts. Has that popularity transferred over to other shonen serie...

Re: Old Anime VS New Anime
I get that we have more fans now with more mainstream tastes, that's what naturally happens when a fanbase gets bigger, but it's pretty dismaying that anime is no longer something people go to for something different or provocative, but rather for most fans it's just another medium to get the comfo...

Re: What are you Watching?
^ I don't know the timing, but if MKR, but given the failures of the U.S. efforts at boy-ifying Card Captor Sakura and Escaflowne, the U.S. market clearly didn't know what to do with shoujo series. :P I found season 2 of MKR actively painful to watch. I liked most of the characters, but the whole se...

Re: What are you Watching?
I watched Time of Eve/Eve no Jinkan last night.
SOOOOOooo my sort of title... science fiction that shines a light on the poignancy and humor inherent in the human condition. Really beautiful.

Re: What are you Watching?
Interesting that you listed Brain Powered, because that's another one I am interested in. Heh... that one's actually sort of on probation for me right now. I found the first couple volumes really intriguing - I liked some of the setup, and the characters and world-building seemed likeable enough - ...

Re: What are you Watching?
Recently started working my way through Sailor Moon. Back in the day, I only saw about 3/4 of the first season, all of "S", and pieces-parts of the other series, and have always wanted to go back and watch it all. With the recent news of a new anime in the works, it seemed a good time. I'm...
