Re: 1999/X x Let's Anime

I can't really speak to the film myself, I have never seen it. Gathering the screen caps for the Let's Anime post was the most "X/1999" I have ever experienced.

Re: 1999/X x Let's Anime

from what I understand, the film's a lot more enjoyable for those who have read the manga and/or seen the TV show. I don't think Matt had, and I know I haven't.

1999/X x Let's Anime

Back in the last print issue of Let's Anime, back in 1999, my pal Matt Murray reviewed the Rintaro film X- you know, based on the CLAMP manga - in one gigantic run-on sentence! And now it's back for your reading pleasure. (Spoiler: he didn't like the movie) https://letsanime.blogspot.com/2022/01/x-m...

Re: How niche was mecha in America before Transformer?

The license you're looking for is "Shogun Warriors." Starting in the late 1970s, American toy company Mattel licensed a really wide variety of different robot and vehicle toys from Bandai / Popy under the Shogun Warriors name - everything from tiny 3-inch plastic robots, 5" diecast me...

Re: How long syndicated shows usually were?

It depends on a lot of factors, but generally the more episodes you can package, the more likely TV stations are to show it. A 50+ episode series stripped in once a day on weekdays (which is how most non-network syndicated shows aired) can get you through ten weeks of material before you start re-ru...

Re: Let's Anime looks at the anime movies of 1981

Great article as always! Will you do another installment next year for 1982? Also, have you talked on your blog about designs from Dougram and other mecha anime of the time were "lifted" into Battletech? And I would like to ask if you remember when was the first time Doraemon came to Amer...

Re: "Where's the meeting this week?"

A meeting place with a TV was definitely a plus, and something we'd want to hold on to. There were a lot of meetings at places without televisions, which meant somebody (usually me) had to load a "big" CRT (usually a 24") television into the back of his car and drive it across town. O...

Let's Anime looks at the anime movies of 1981

Time to go back forty years and bring some popcorn because it's movie time! Anime movie time, that is.

Re: "Where's the meeting this week?"

dang it, I forgot to mention our solution to the question posed by this topic - "Where's the meeting this week?" One of our members had a second phone line in his apartment, and he hooked an answering machine up to that phone line. That number became our club's "Info Line," and e...

Re: "Where's the meeting this week?"

CORRECTION!!! The name of the restaurant was "Sgt. Singer's Pizza CIRCUS". Not Palace. Circus. Based out of Pasadena there were four of these restaurants, only one of which was in Georgia. https://arcadepreservation.fandom.com/w ... zza_Circus
