Re: eagle sam the olympic eagle

I think there's only one episode extant, and that one episode got fansubbed. I meant to include the link in my article but I forgot - I kinda rushed through this one. Just happy to write a column that combined my love of anime with my love of digging thru antique malls! (fansubbed episode) https://y...

eagle sam the olympic eagle

just in time for the closing ceremonies, it’s a new Let’s Anime all about the 1980s anime based on the mascot for the LA Summer Games, with a little bit about the 1979 anime based on the mascot for the Moscow Summer Games, and how you can still find merchandise from these characters! https://letsani...

Re: Gkids licenses FUTURE BOY CONAN!

the GKids tweet does say "series" - "GKIDS is proud to announce the acquisition of the North American rights to FUTURE BOY CONAN, the debut series from the legendary Hayao Miyazaki! " is what they say. On GKIDS' Conan website, they list the running time as 780 minutes. It looks l...

Re: What are you Watching?

ODD TAXI is terrific, it's one of the few shows that really sticks the landing! I'm enjoying GODZILLA SINGULAR POINT, especially the Jet Jaguar scenes, which seem to have captured the spirit of 70s super robot shows without even trying. Wasn't too impressed with the Gundam HATHAWAY movie; I think th...

Re: I Was A Teenage Anime Club President

I didn't start going to Rainbow until... the late 90s? I don't know, I could drive myself, at least. Nippon Daido was before my time (in ATL) but some place like that reminds me of my first trip to Iwase when it was in (I want to say) Roswell or Sandy Springs. Iwase Books was terrific; it was eye o...

Re: I Was A Teenage Anime Club President

Just curious, which shows popular back then like "Getta Robo" which people mostly got the title wrong? It reminds me of a recent splash in the Gundam community--for some recent, Netflix decided to use the ancient translation of "the Duchy of Zeon" for Hathaway's Flash. Generally...

Re: I Was A Teenage Anime Club President

The more things change, the more they stay the same. When I was a teenage anime club president (in the late 90s), we ditched zines and newsletters and working with other clubs (I regret now that I never got out to an Anime X meeting). We kept copying tapes, even if it was at home instead of daisy-c...

Re: Is there a new-school equivalent of Dirty Pair?

A fun SF show with grownups doing adventure stuff that features stand-alone stories every episode? Not that I know of. Most anime shows these days either have continuing stories, are about people who die and find themselves elves in dungeons, or star young teenagers, or some combination of the three.
