Re: Guilty Pleasures

My only problem with early Thor is Vince Colletta. When were those? My early Thor collection starts and ends with Kirby... Vince Colletta was Kirby's inker for most of those old days (check the credits). Apparently Ilj feels that Colletta wasn't well suited to the Master's pencils...he may ha...

Re: Hello from xsquid

Yeah, well...here's the skinny, if you wish to know:

I've a feeling I'll be a bit deaf and creaky for the music end of it.
But if you're gonna convince the wife, she deserves to know what's going on! Although, again, who really needs an excuse to visit Hawaii?

Re: Hello from xsquid

Wow, your toy collection sounds amazing. I'd love to see pictures if you ever take any. Macross is my favorite as well. I have some Takatoku, Bandai, and new Yamato valkyries. The new ones are amazing looking, but you still gotta love the old chunky-monkeys! Well, since you asked, danth, quite a lo...

Re: Laserdiscs

"Stagefright" gets no love, and it's rather unfair. Blame the producers. If they had sprung to produce two more songs, or even one more, fans wouldn't cringe quite as much; the song suffered from overexposure. Considering how much editing was done, there was probably no way to allow for mo...

Re: Hello from xsquid

He used to stationed in Misawa, up until a few years ago. Like you, I think he'd rather be back there. It's a trade-off. I spent 18 months in Misawa; the summers were very nice, and Towada Park (a semi-national park) was less than an hour's drive away, with a lovely lake tucked up in the hills. OTO...

Re: Hello from xsquid

Aging otaku get-together in Hawaii? You might be pleasantly surprised. There's lots of middle-aged men there who'd probably join you if you started singing the old Kikaida theme on the bus. In fact, about nine or so years back there was a revival of that show in Hawaii. The actor who played the rol...

Re: J-dramas

One of the most wonderful things about living in Hawaii was the media: American soil, yet one can experience all the Japanese one wants with little effort. Case in point: KIKU-TV, whose broadcasting is mostly in Japanese, a rich source of TV dramas from Japan, and whose shows are routinely subtitled...

Re: Laserdiscs

I can't remember the name of the end song, but I think it's the best Macross song. I still hear that song on occasion in department stores in Japan, as well as the main song, "Oboeteimasuka?" Those two songs have stood the test of time, and whenever I hear either playing in a Japanese dep...

Re: How Much Anime Do You Watch?

I echo Heero's views exactly.
Now and then I'll binge on something for a few hours straight, and then watch nothing for a week or two. It depends on my mood (and the weather--if it's too hot, I'll stay inside and watch something).
