Re: What are you Watching?

Barakamon--Nice, slim slice of life show. Nothing incredible here, just a satisfying time waster that never goes long enough or does anything bad enough to stumble. If you're an artist, you'll relate to the protagonist. Galaxy Express 999 TV--Finally it's here. Discotek has really nice job with upsc...

Re: What are you Watching?

Buncha shows: Squid Girl--Finally getting around to this. Amusing little comedy show, not quite as frantic as I expected, but suitable for kids as far as I can tell. Ancient Magus' Bride--Really enjoying what I've seen. Feels more like a European fantasy than your typical anime fantasy. Is It Wrong ...

Re: What are you Watching?

Re:Zero. I'm watching a TV series that is recent by my standards! Anyway, I enjoyed it, and looking forward to season 2. It has its issues (your generic wimpy protag and generic bland plot device love interest) but the cliffhangers at the end of every episode are really something else and when it hi...

Re: Two-langugate alternating subtitles

I'd like to say I think Funimation does this too, but I'm not sure. That said, alternating phonetic and translated subtitles was definitely a regular thing with ADV back in the day As for the superimposed hard credits, Funimation DEFINITELY does this all the time now, where they re-edit the opening ...

Re: What are you Watching?

Yes, I own Night is Short, Walk on Girl. :D I also just received Tatami Galaxy in the mail, so I'm about to start on that now, finally.

Re: What are you Watching?

Lu Over the Wall. Good fun film, basically Ponyo for a 13 and up set. Although I still miss the days when the anime industry used to pump out dark, stylishly violent theatrical action films, I think Masaaki Yuasa is my favorite of the current anime "film" directors. He just has a quirky experimental...

Re: What are you Watching?

Yeah, it's a pretty by-the-numbers story and by-the-numbers use of tropes outside of the lesbian angle. I doubt many people in Japan batted an eye.

Re: What are you Watching?

Yeah, it's an overused plot device. I think a lot of it has less to do with the taboo factor and more to do with a way to get multiple scenes between two characters together in the same house to keep the story progressing. It's cheap and lazy but given the amount of key story points that happen "at ...

Re: Rumiko Takahashi to start new manga Spring 2019

I would also like to add, in addition to my above post, that despite Rumiko Takahashi being one of the most purely commercially driven manga artists in Japan, she also happens to still be, on a purely technical level, one of the greatest comic artists in the world. You are never "lost" while reading...

Re: What are you Watching?

So I finished watching Citrus, the anime. I've been reading what other people thought of it online and I have to say I'm slightly amused that so much ink has been spilled on it, both positive and negative. I do feel that Citrus is a case of an anime simply coming out at the right place in the wrong ...
