Re: What are you Watching?

My problem with Minority Report has less to do with Tom Cruise and more with Spielberg's tendencies for Hollywood sentimentality. The last few scenes totally go against the colder, harder nature of the first 3/4 of the film, which I loved. Same goes for A.I. too, which was originally going to be han...

Re: The old-school anime DVD/BD news thread.

The Discotek DVDs are usually the best versions of these movies on DVD, in terms of picture quality. Discotek's Golgo 13 has the original credits intact for the first time in North America, too. Plus, it's anamorphic, unlike the previous DVD versions. Venus Wars is based off the master used for the ...

Re: Blade Runner

My friend bought it on Bluray and said that it's really not much better picture quality than the standard DVD. I can imagine this must be true for pretty much any older movie. The Final Cut is the perfect version of the movie. Continuity errors are fixed, technical errors are corrected, and a few e...

Re: What are you Watching?

Reminds me of Red Mask from Giant Robo's Magnificent Ten, actually. Is this based on a Mitsuteru Yokoyama creation?

Re: What are you Playing?

I actually played the second OG first, about 2 years ago. I remember the final boss being a pain, with his regenerating HP. Right now I'm finally catching up on the first one to see how where everyone came from, but to be honest, both games have this in media res feel to it so I'm not sure it matter...

Re: What are you Playing?

Playing Super Robot Wars OG on the GBA. What impresses me most about this series is how the dozens and dozens of characters in the game all seem to have distinct personalities even when they don't play a big role in the overall plot. There's also a lot of intertwining going on with the relationships...

Re: Final Fantasy is Dead!

I was really big into the SNES Final Fantasy games back in high school. In fact, they were the games that turned me onto jrpg console games. But I never made the leap into 32 bit and beyond with this franchise. I later played FF9 and enjoyed it, and got near the end of FF7 until my game crashed in t...

Re: The old-school anime DVD/BD news thread.

S'More doesn't have a clue. All people wanted was average video quality and normal soft subs. THAT IS IT. They couldn't even do those things properly. It's no wonder this release failed. They also underestimated how much of the target consumers they lost when word broke out about how shoddy their re...

Re: What are you Watching?

I like sex scenes and I do own some hentai FOR the sex scenes. :P The problem is when they are poorly animated or poorly drawn, like so many hentai usually are, I get turned off. Nothing worse than artists who don't understand proper human anatomy. And I don't mean exaggerated boobs or bodies, I mea...

Re: What are you Watching?

Watched Taro the Dragon Boy the other day. I wish Discotek would bring over some more of the old "Toeiscope" era anime. It's such a treat watching anime in scope ratio widescreen. I don't know why there haven't been any anime movies since those days that animate for scope widescreen format...
