Re: What ettiquette was there in the days of Usenet?

Yeah, idk if there was that much of a difference in "etiquette", so much as there were some groups where people just got along better? Definitely demographics. I know something I struggled with looking back was that I original saw Usenet as being sort of like a Twitter or Reddit of the early 90s, b...

Re: What are you Watching?

I think Masaaki Yuasa is my favorite of the current anime "film" directors. He just has a quirky experimental visual style that suits my tastes more than Makoto Shinkai or Mamoru Hosoda's teen angst and furry films do. He has a new TV series out, "Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!": http://www.crunchyr...

Re: C/FO New York flyer (July 1980)

I think also there is the scale of the modern audience; as an example, the anime forum on Reddit has 1,274,529 members -- that's more than the entire population of the Bronx in 1980! C/FO New York was just a handful of people in 1980, and flyers were never meant to be kept.

Re: Current Gainax President arrested

I feel like "Turning Bad Creeps into Good Creeps Since 1984" could be the unofficial Gainax motto, but lately it's just been a lot of news from bad creeps, it seems... with Gaina taking over Uru in Blue, I'm not sure what's left at Gainax original. Who is still there? I don't really follow sakuga-Tw...

Re: C/FO New York flyer (July 1980)

the going rate for an anime club flyer is $24??? Holy cow. I think maybe "the going rate for a C/FO New York flyer from when the club was 5 months old" is $24. The U.S. anime fandom scene in 1980 was very different; no Starblazers Fan Club, no EDC, not even a C/FO Philadelphia, just C/FO LA and C/F...

Re: So who watches/makes AMV's? Lets have a thread about that!

One thing I think is kind of interesting is that conventions tend to develop a "house style" for AMVs, like the ones that focus on doing cool stuff technically, or the lyrics-driven AMVs where they try to match the anime action and cuts to the timing of the lyrics of a song. I didn't really realize ...

Favorite holiday-themed anime?

I figured it's the right time to ask. (^_^) Anyone have any one-off favorites (films, OAVs, etc.) or series specials that people might dig if they weren't up-to-date on the rest of the series?

Re: What are you Watching?

I finally gave in to curiosity and watched the live action Battle Angel. I don't remember the short OVAs too well, but I knew some elements unseen in the original would be in the movie, however... I can't believe Alita's facial design made it past screen test uno. I think the CG team liked that ICE...
