Re: An index of prominent figures in the early anime fandom?

I've talked to Marg in the past few years. Yeah, I don't think she was particularly a con goer but without her contributions, a lot of stuff APA and fanzine wise would never have happened. And she was one of the first fans in the TO area I knew. Craig was up in Barrie. And the guys with Protocultur...

Re: An index of prominent figures in the early anime fandom?

Thank you so much for sharing your history! I actually couldn't find that many source on Canadian anime fandom at the time, so I really appreciate what you have written. Also, I don't know that Ann E. Nichols was a translator beside being the president of C/FO. Can you please talk more about her? A...

Re: An index of prominent figures in the early anime fandom?

Interesting work. But spotty on several people, especially Canadian fandom. William Chow I had never heard of until a few years ago. I don't recall ever trading with him or anything. According to an old newsletter I was involved with (The Captain Harlock/Galaxy Express Newsletter dated 12 August 198...

Re: Kyoto Animation studio fire

Odd that they charged me tax on a donation. I guess their software isn't capable of knowing that there should be no tax charged on this item. Not that it makes much of a difference but I guess someone should let them know...

Re: Interviews with animators or artists

Wish we could get the 5 part NHK History of SF Manga c. 1982 hosted by Leiji Matsumoto fansubbed. Lots of interesting guests like Tezuka, Takao Saito, Ishinomori, etc. I have not seen that one one Youtube or anywhere else. Probably another one off that NHK promptly destroyed the original footage of...

Re: Interviews with animators or artists

I've actually got some televised recordings of Anno and Ohata on the SciFi channel in the 90's that they did interviews with/overdubbed their voices to english, and I got that Tim Eldred Yamato documentary and one other that you might be interested in. If you want it PM me and I can put them on a g...

Re: Interviews with animators or artists

If you want to see some great interviews with manga artists, the NHK series "Manben" is where it's at: Naoki Urasawa interviews a whole bunch of currently working manga-ka, including veterans like Takao Saito, Junji Ito, Ryoichi Ikegami, Moto Hagio, Kazuhiro Fujita, and younger artists as...

Interviews with animators or artists

Of late, I've been trying to archive as many of the old interview shows as possible. I don't know if this is considered lost footage or else just misplaced. Now with the death of Monkey Punch, I have to look closer at several airings of his movies or specials for any interviews that might have been ...

Re: The Anime Nostalgia Podcast & Blog

She is 53, so she *might* have known about anime when the fandom started up in the late 1980s. You should write to her and ask. As far as other Magical Girls series, Little Witch Sally predates SM by a long shot. That show was also available in Canada in the late 1970s/early 1980s as Mini Fee. And ...
