Re: Am I glad to be here!

Welcome to the forum! A couple of other old-school sites: Masamune Shirow Hyperpages: http://www.takotech.net/archive_mshp/ (currently throwing up a dangerous site warning though, so be careful) The original Macross Compendium page is still online: http://macross.anime.net/index.html Gears Online h...

Re: Chasing after the long-lost American Sailor Moon

Yeah, a LOT of live-action 90s American shows (esp ones aimed at kids) were VERY campy. Re: Chasing after the long-lost American Sailor Moon

Is it just me or does a lot of mass media things in America in the 1990s felt so... flashy and campy and such? It was as if the decade started with goofiness and ended with unserious grimness. Anyway, I have these two questions: 1. Was the animation of that 1995 Anime Expo video average or bad compa...

Re: Am I glad to be here!

Welcome! Wow, that Slayers fansite sure is old-school. Doesn't look like it's been redesigned in ages, which probably helps with the look, eh? Some long-time fansites that are still around that I know off the top of my head are http://ohtori.nu (Utena), http://www.furinkan.com (all things Rumiko Ta...

Re: Regarding the url of old fansites

in terms of encyclopedia style collections of information about Japanese animation, there were several sources prior to fansites on the World Wide Web. -Professional magazines like Animerica, Anime UK, etc. The magazine Animag spent most of its first 15 or 20 issues covering Zeta Gundam in great de...

Re: Regarding the url of old fansites

I wasn't hosting websites at the time, but in the late 1980s and much of the 1990s, universities were where the internet was happening, both in terms of users being students who were given access through university computer services, and the software itself being developed at various institutions. ...

Regarding the url of old fansites

A long time ago, I noticed when looking through the various pre-2000 anime fansites that some of them are hosted by colleges, which are indicated by their url. I am not an American so I have no idea how can you get permission from your college to create a non-academic website that has the college's ...

Hello! I am new here, and it is really nice to be a part of this community! I have only just started watching anime seriously around six years ago, and the number of titles I have watched must be minuscule compared to you here. I hope that you can impart some of your wisdom onto me! As for personal...
