If nothing else, this gives a reason to dig up the manga from whatever box I have it in and read it again..

I also at one point had Nausicaa and Laputa on VCD, but it was also Chinese/Japanese/subtitled so... probably not legal?

Re: How did Hentai made its way to America?
I recall Cream Lemon tapes being circulated late eighties/early nineties. I even vaguely recall 'fan dubs' of that going around.

Re: How long can the craze for a merchandise-driven anime can last?
The Pokemon Trading Card game was hugely popular in the US. I don't think I've ever seen anything reach that level of popularity before or since. Cards were sold almost everywhere and for such a huge mark-up. I remember flipping through channels one day and seeing the cards being sold on the Home S...

Re: How long can the craze for a merchandise-driven anime can last?
My first thought directed me to here -> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_media_franchises Pokemon as a franchise is larger than Hello Kitty, Micky Mouse, Disney Princess movies, Marvel movies, Harry Potter.. Actually Pokemon is worth more than the Marvel Cinematic universe, the...

Re: The first instance of sharing anime online
I recall two video files (Mpegs) that were about 30 seconds long, one from Nausicaa and one from Green Legend Ran... both were around 1992. No audio, if I recall correctly, but they were among the first animated files I saw ever, so I recall them.

My summer plans...
While still doing some work from home, I have enough set up to spend more time on other things. I happened to notice that my 'anime' folder has no fewer than 4,965 files/episodes in it, many I have never seen. As I have mentioned elsewhere, I have issues that tend to trip me up over actually watchin...

Re: How big was Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs?
I can only speak for myself, but I had never heard of this show before. I watched the intro on youtube and confirmed that I had never heard of it. My wife hadn't heard of it, but upon watching the intro confirmed she remembered it existing, but she never watched it.
I hope that helps? =)

Re: What ettiquette was there in the days of Usenet?
One comment to add, was 'back in the day', every time you posted on Usenet, a warning popped up saying that it would cost 'hundreds, if not thousands of dollars' for the post to be sent out across the world. Ah, quick search pulled it up: "This program posts news to thousands of machines throug...
