Re: KNDY's trip to Japan
Love those skyline shots! Also glad to see that Softbank is still using the Otousan + Family advertisements (The Shibuya Station pic). I really like that pic of the Tokyo Dome, too. Did you go to a game there?

Re: 1994
^ That NewType cover - man, how many times did I watch Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture? Way too many, probably. Cover also reminds me that I've still been meaning to watch Ghost Sweeper Mikami all these years. And those Animerica covers! Here's the burning question I want to know: What was Viz's moti...

Re: Laserdiscs
Judging by the overall artwork and style, Yamato 2520 looks to be about mid-nineties in vintage, no? Anything from that time period would have been reliably released on each format, almost regardless of sales. Now, whether how rare or easy to find it might be is a different question. The pics look g...

Re: What are you Watching?
Have you seen Kill La Kill yet? I got a lot of that vibe from their fanservice and I think that it is fairly well done though, I can't say I was familiar with much of satarizing otaku fanservice culture prior to KLK. I think fanservice satire has been around since at least the 80s. I've seen dozens...

Re: Streamline Pictures
This is a fantastic article. I'm so very looking forward to the next installment(s)! I'm especially curious about the end of the company as well; while the folded, I thought several properties of theirs got sold off (in almost the first type of 'license rescue' we're familiar with today) but I don't...

Re: Fansub morality/preservation/industry talk
I thought I came back to reply to this thread but I must not have posted... The anime supply we enjoy as consumers (rich or poor) is only guaranteed if we're willing to acquire the data with no support from capricious distributors. Young fans today may only have to scrape together a dime for streami...

Re: New Dragon Ball anime for Summer 2015: Dragon Ball Super
I think for me, I am cautiously optimistic about this. We've been burned in the past, namely Dragonball GT. I absolutely loved how that series started - the SF adventure show - and hated that it tried to carry on from Dragonball Z with the only links between stories being characters that were resurr...

Re: What are you Watching?
Was looking for something to veg out on and not think the other week, so I popped Gunbuster (Aim for the Top!) DVDs in. Also been on a cyberpunk kick lately, so I am planning on re-watching Megazone 23 Parts 1 and 2 (AKA, the good parts of Megazone 23) and picking Psycho Pass up again. I just watche...

Re: What are you Watching?
Anime-related, I watched the Studio Ghibli/Miyazaki documentary Kingdom of Dreams and Madness on Netflix today. Even though I wouldn't say I am a Ghibli or Miyazaki fan, was a great piece. I really enjoyed the "inside baseball" approach. The documentary is mostly about the production of th...

Re: What are you currently watching on tv?
I've finally discovered watching Band of Brothers. Produced by Tom Hanks and Stephen Spielberg, this is like watching Saving Private Ryan for hours on end. I missed this show originally because I did not have HBO, and here in Japan you can rent American TV shows. Heck, here you can rent movies peri...
