Re: The Anime Nostalgia Podcast & Blog
Yes, I did get into OMG back in the days of DH's original release. They didn't skip the first chapter--they released the first few chapters that showed Belldandy showing up & Keiichi moving out. THEN they skipped straight to Urd showing up. The reasons for that being that 1. many fans were alre...

Re: How did you discover anime?
Flipping through the French Channels in Canada to find Albator on one of them. Then asking Maggie Thompson about these neat cartoons and getting in touch with the C/FO through her. That would be about 1979. Things really took off after getting my contact in Japan through an ad he had placed in The V...

Re: pages from C/FO Magazine V2 #3
This brings back lots of memories. Wonder what happened to Craig? I caught up with him some years back when he moved back to Canada from Scotland as I recall, then promptly lost track of him again. I have lots of old C/FO stuff in a box which I labeled "History of Anime Fandom". Still have...

Too bad that one was never subbed in Hawaii. It would have been great to see.

Re: Fred Patten RIP
Just read this from Laurine White's newsletter. Sad day indeed but probably not unexpected after reading he had put an end to his writing for the Cartoon Database a year ago. I had met him a number of times at conventions over the years.

Re: What are you Playing?
Still playing Destiny 2 and considering (against my better judgement) getting the Forsaken DLC in September, expensive as it is. D2 is not as good a game as D1 but it can be good to while away a few hours. Bought Overwatch for both my PS4 Pro and my Xbox One X as they were on sale for $20CAD this pa...

Re: Beyond The Valley Of Further Under The Western Influence II: The Return
Thierry La Fronde (Thierry the Sling) was a very popular series from the mid 1960s. It was like Robin Hood but set at the time of the 100 years War. It was shown in Canada in both French and English but (alas) the English version has been lost. It's out on DVD but French only. I have a few anime ada...

Re: My first thought was "Oh no": Hollywood Live-Action Gundam
Here's the problem though. Though many of the characters in these old anime had Japanese sounding names and the mannerisms might have been Japanese, how do you film them if the characters don't look Japanese at all? Blond hair and blue eyes doesn't really fit now does it. It sounds racist but is it?...

Re: Beyond The Valley Of Further Under The Western Influence II: The Return
"Meanwhile, hundreds of Japanese anime shows that didn't fit into this box just didn't exist, as far as most of the fandom was concerned." Which is why I'm having a hard time justifying saving anything other than the really popular stuff. BUT I'm going to try anyway. Found out recently abo...
