Re: Yet another younger fan here
The shikishi has some fingerprints I hope belong to Toshihiro Hirano! But it's probably the previous owner's... Right now I'd like to get cels from Patlabor, from which I don't have any. It would in theory also be nice to have one with a background from Kiki's Delivery Service as the city is inspir...

Re: Convention Appearances 2018
I pay AZ no mind when there so bipolar on their decisions to handle crowds. I haven't even checked on who is going to AZ on the website yet, maybe i'll do that next month when more guests are announced, I dunno. It has more to do about how upset their upper management is that we opted not to bid on...

Re: Convention Appearances 2018
I'll be at Animazement in May and despite the horrors of last year, AnimeFest in August. If PMX returns, I may go to that one in November...and if Maeda attends SacAnime, I'll go for the day just to visit with him. I dunno, but I'm having a hard time motivating myself to attend conventions this year...

Re: All Your Cels Belong to Japan
It's interesting that they're now considering Tezuka's originals as 'national treasures'. Over a decade ago, the Tezuka Astroboy exhibit was featured at the San Francisco Asian Art Museum. I visited the exhibit and was saddened to see that very little conservation effort had gone into their display....

Re: All Your Cels Belong to Japan
That book has a figure of Nezumi Otoko drawn in the inside front cover. I saw a signed Mizuki on a website out of Japan years ago where the asking price was something like $8,000! Now with Mizuki dead, how would a collector go about getting signed artwork originals? Mandarake's Big Web Auction. Ori...

Re: All Your Cels Belong to Japan
^ I don't think they're interested in buying signed goods. What they want is the primo stuff, like really nice hanken cels (artwork used for VHS/DVD covers and other commercial goods), complete key set-ups with matching backgrounds and fully colored, hand drawn sketches. They want the Ghibli and Eva...

All Your Cels Belong to Japan
I'm sure some of you have seen this article by now, but just in case - https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2018-01-08/multiparty-diet-group-to-submit-bill-to-keep-original-anime-cels-manga-materials-in-japan/.126160 In short, the Japanese government is debating passing a bill to prevent foreigners...

Re: Relating to younger fans...
I think the disconnect is a generational thing and applies pretty much across the board. Every generation has their go-to anime based on what was out when they were primarily watching anime. Sailor Moon was my go-to magical girl anime, and despite owning the DVDs thanks to Anime Sols, I still have y...
