Re: The truth about Tenchi Muyo!

It's always been my opinion that Tenchi's "formula" was what spawned the popular harem-anime series formula, but it was UY that inspired the "dude constantly surrounded by ladies" idea, since it was really the first popular anime to do that. I can see it from that standpoint - d...

Re: The Show Off Your Old Days Stuff Thread

I feel like I need to break down and get some more stuff photographed or get to hunting stuff down. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a332/ender_424/Anime%20Stuff/IMAG0120.jpg At risk of sounding like an absolute tool, I really love those old advertisements with all of the release dates and differen...

Re: Laserdiscs

I want to say that all of the threads on this forum are gold but I think this is one of my favorite threads! One thing I miss about other anime communities is that trying to get a conversation about LaserDiscs going is near impossible. Personally, I love all of the artwork put into them like everyon...

Re: Have you abandoned physical media to watch your anime?

Digital is the way to go; but keep backups. I agree and will eventually get there. When I was a Senior in high school, I was thinking of digitizing my VHS collection for the simple reason that I didn't want to haul all of my tapes to university with me. I gave it a try and could never get things do...

Re: The truth about Tenchi Muyo!

I was introduced to Tenchi Muyou! after I had already been into anime for a few years, so I think the only impact it really had on me was that it was another "thing" I got and another thing to reference with all of my other dorky friends. Maybe it's because I got started with Tenchi TV (Te...

Re: Have you abandoned physical media to watch your anime?

I wouldn't say that I've abandoned physical media when it comes to anime; I would categorize it as eschewed at the moment. While legal streaming (Cruncyroll and Daisuki.net for me) and older, obscurer stuff being most easily found digitally has greatly helped keep DVDs and BluRays (and LDs) from ove...

Looking forward to getting to know everyone else here, too! DUDE! HI! I sent you a PM about this forum on AN, but I nev...

Re: make anime conventions better

Scope creep is a subject that is near and dear to my heart - seeing it at all sorts of anime conventions I was going to was one of the driving forces behind our mission of starting SeishunCon in Atlanta. I say that phrase - scope creep - a lot, you'd think I just picked it up for some SAT study sess...

Re: my take on old American anime magazines

I did a write-up ages ago comparing several of the magazines here (holy crap, it feels weird digging up that article). I never got Animag and Animenonimous as they were published, I got them much much later as a gift. I read Animerica a bit in the late 1990s since they seemed to be the only game in ...

.... Yeah, sorry for that terrible pseudo-code subject line; I'm better at content posting than I am coming up with subjects, I promise. Hey everyone; my name is Drew. I forget how I found this forum exactly, I remember being linked to a thread on Twitter, read through some of the threads over a cou...
