Re: Artist Alleys need to grow!

There are gosh knows how many anime cons and gosh knows how many AAs at those anime cons, and they're all run differently. I know every convention of any size has had problems over the years with AAs - with staff issues, size issues, bootleg and counterfeit artwork, etc. There's some communication a...

Re: More Sickening News

When I talk about corporate firearms marketing creating and perpetuating the gun culture, this is kind of what I'm talking about: http://gawker.com/5969150/bushmaster-firearms-your-man-card-is-revoked The Bushmaster .223, recently used in the Sandy Hook massacre, here sold as a masculinity-enhancer ...

Re: More Sickening News

I'm having trouble with the whole "things were great back in the old days" position. Because they weren't. I don't even know where to begin. There never was a magical golden age of America (or, indeed, the world) when people weren't committing horrible atrocities with whatever tools were h...

Re: Gift Ideas for Japanese pen-pal

If there's any sort of food item or delicacy that your region is known for, it might make a good gift. As long as it travels well and can withstand the rigors of the postal service.

You could send them a Christmas fruitcake. Those are indestructible.

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-201_162-57408214/7-dead-in-shooting-at-oakland-religious-school/ Thank goodness this guy hadn't been able to get any knives, or TODAY'S gun massacre would have been a lot worse. No fatalities in last night's breakup-inspired movie theater shooting in Texas: http://www.mys...

Re: More Sickening News

It's way too early in the investigation to really be able to make any definite statements about the CT shooting, but when you say that schoolteacher was apparently psychologically fit to be a kindergarten teacher as well as a gun owner. Her problem is that she gave guns to her pathetic goth son who ...

Re: More Sickening News

I don't want to paint with too broad a brush here, but one of the reasons Japan doesn't have the kind of America-style gun massacres is because of Japan's restrictive gun laws. Japanese people are quite capable of committing all kinds of horrific crimes against themselves and others. Most people are...

Re: More Sickening News

I've spent most of my life sticking up for gun rights, but not any more. America needs to realize it has a serious problem with guns and gun violence and the way it's being dealt with. As in, it is not. Of course, the paid shills of the NRA are already crying that it's not the right time to talk abo...

Re: Hi from Northern California

I recently went to a small anime con and basically the con was about everything else other than the anime shows themselves. Sure, the cosplaying and merchandise were based on anime, but there really wasn't a whole lot of ACTUAL anime there. But nobody seemed to care! I wondered to myself if I was g...
