Re: Sega Dreamcast Love

I agree on 3d fighters being less of a draw in some ways. I don't really like how Street Fighter IV plays, personally. I find it very sluggish, even moreso than the original SF2 in some ways. People say it's more "realistic" in the way the physics are handled, but this is Street Fighter, n...

Re: Guilty Pleasures

I had to google Homestuck after reading this thread.

Boy, I'm out of touch with today's fandoms. Not that it bothers me.

Re: Sega Dreamcast Love

I also have to chime in that kndy has it right that being able to play the Dreamcast on a VGA monitor is the worth the time and money to hunt down a DC VGA adaptor. IMO, 480p is the perfect resolution for video games. Modern HD video games are too "film-like", and I like my games to look &...

Re: What are you Watching?

Okay, it took me a couple of weeks to watch the last two episodes of Gunsmith Cats. I think if it had been a movie instead it would have been considered one of the better action anime of the 90s. As an OVA it's a decent time waster, but the episodic structure didn't really help it, imo, especially s...

Re: Sega Dreamcast Love

The Dreamcast is indeed quite a neat and extremely versatile little console. The architecture is very similar to that of the Naomi arcade board. So it really was the closest experience to playing arcade games because it was suited for that type of gameplay. The PS2 and XBox were more powerful memory...

Re: Summer Movies 2013

At the risk of sounding like a snobby douchebag, I'm just not big on many summer blockbuster films anymore. Superhero and "geeky" summer extravaganzas lost me years ago. I'll probably take in something that isn't a sequel or isn't a superhero film if I'm going for an FX laden experience. S...

Re: What are you Watching?

It could *possibly* be an older dub from way back. You'd be surprised how many old anime films were dubbed in the 70s and 80s and then fell into obscurity. Does the audio sound old and worn, Greg, or does it sound more like it was done with newer audio equipment? It's been a while since I saw the Pi...

Re: Guilty Pleasures

I'm generally skeptical of online fandoms devoted solely to one particular show or franchise. It takes a certain kind of person to obsess over something very specific, and many fandoms tend to have a sort of tunnel vision about certain issues as a result. And like you said Usamimi, they're usually h...

Re: What are you Watching?

Finished Shangri-La. Can't help but think that if it got another 15 or so episodes it might be considered a minor classic; on the other hand, at times it sometimes drags even at 24 episodes, so maybe not. As it stands, it's a watchable if slightly disjointed show with some very interesting politics,...
