Re: Thirty Years Ago: The Best Anime of 1988

I need to watch Crash again... probably will. Never watched AD Police either... shame on me. Appleseed, in my circles anyway, got about zero love. I had read the English adaptation which blew me a way. It was the first anime VHS tape I got, along w/ Akira, one Xmas. Remember when we had to write dow...

Re: Youtube video "We Have Accepted Mediocrity" snipet focusing on 80s anime

Lupin III pt. V This I will probably try, but old IP in a new setting rarely does much for me. Yamato 2202 Same as above. 2199 took me a year to get through. Simply stated, I'd have rather rewatched the original. You may be interested in reading this five-part series of articles by W. David Marx (h...

Re: Youtube video "We Have Accepted Mediocrity" snipet focusing on 80s anime

To play devil's advocate: I am trying to find new, good stuff that entertains me, and I fail. This is after living in Japan for 15 years until a few years ago. So lack of exposure would be ironic. It's a given there that I was inundated with the garbage on TV (as I am here, with western TV) but also...

Re: Thirty Years Ago: The Best Anime of 1988

Damn, not even a mention for Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040? I figured if that's the one thing to rant on from 1998 from certain people in fandom, it would be that show. I got no beef with Tokyo 2040, it's how I got to know about BGC in the first place before the OVA's, and I got no hate on that show....

Re: New City Hunter Movie announced for 2019!

Some of these shows that were a bit over the top I didn't get into. I have no idea why I didn't get into Cobra, but part of me is glad I didn't. It's still episode an somewhat simple, but TBH for early 80's the quality is pretty amazing, and it's got all kinds of stuff that anything coming out of Ja...

Re: Photos from a 1979 C/FO LA meeting

I remember it well. BOY do I remember it well. I think it actually got around to 85 Yen to the Dollar at one point. This happened during 2007-2008 as well. I remember receiving invoices from my deputy service, ShoppingMallJapan, and being in absolute tears. There was a lot of really nice production...

Link to his? I used to trade tapes with him via snail mail... and sent messages over FAX from time to time. (Prepared me for my 15 years inJapan). He was really into early 70's giant robot stuff.

Re: Project A-Kon II program book (1991)

Project A-Kon is still owned & operated by Meri Davis under the auspices of her "Phoenix Entertainment Media Group" - I don't know what legal organization ran Project A-Kon back in the day but she's been con chair since day one. Okay, that rings a bell. I believe maybe Donovan just ra...
