Re: Gall Force - Your thoughts

I recently rewatched the first three Gall Force productions and part one of EArth Chapter. I really like the designs of course. The pacing can be a bit inconsistent. There are stretches where nothing is happening and then good stretches that end too soon. I think Eternal Story is probably still the ...

Re: UY ALLSTARS: New Urusei Yatsura anime on TV in 2022!

Yeah. And at the end of the day Takahashi is a populist and Oshii is more concerned with self expression. Both are valid forms of art, but i can see why Takahashi would dislike Oshii’s tangents.

Re: UY ALLSTARS: New Urusei Yatsura anime on TV in 2022!

It will likely be more faithful to the manga than the original anime series was. I love the original anime, but it took liberties, that’s for sure.

Re: What are you Watching?

Genocidal Organ--In an increasingly YA-oriented anime film market, this one is a refreshing throwback to those 90s political thrillers by Oshii. Although in animation quality, it's not as tight as those past films. That said, this one's an interesting adaptation of the novel of the same. The post 9/...

Re: Macross Plus OVA TONIGHT at AMC Theaters

I won’t be going into any theatres for a while but for those that do, the movie version was pretty good. I owned the vhs back in the day. I hear this version will be even further edited than the movie version released in the 90s

Re: Favorite holiday-themed anime?

Dragging this up again. I rewatched Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya again and i still think it’s one of the best anime movies of the 2000s. And a damn fine Christmas movie. I’m not even this huge Haruhi fan overall. But the movie does so many things right in paying off everything that happened befo...

Re: Netflix cancels LA Cowboy Bebop

It’s worth at least knowing about. Even back in the 90s i was one of the few posters who liked it but expressed a tempered enjoyment of it online. It’s popular because it’s very accessible to viewers outside Japan. And there’s the “this anime doesn’t make me feel nerdy for watching it” factor for ca...

Re: Netflix cancels LA Cowboy Bebop

It was DOA from the start. Nobody asked for a live action, and people were predisposed to dislike it from the start regardless of its merits. But Cowboy Bebop is most famous for its ridiculous sense of style. I’d even say the show is a case of style over substance being a valid artistic approach. No...

Re: What are you Watching?

Crusher Joe movie—Finally watched this. There’s an opinion out there that the OVAs are better. I get that, but i think i like the movie better despite some hitches in the pacing and scene transitions. It has a romanticism and grandness to it that the OVAs lack.
