Re: Anime Girls: Then and Now
To be honest, the thing about the delicate, tinted-hair, J-rock visual k-looking, male anime characters - they look crazy from an American guy perspective, but walking around Tokyo you see TONS of guys who look like that. Tinted hair, styled to the max, dressed in the latest fashion; this is how fas...

Re: Anime Girls: Then and Now

Yes, that's Hibari-kun, and in spite of all appearances, Hibari-kun is all man.

Dibs on the Crusher Joe, the Holmes, the Toei Manga Matsuri one with Saint Seiya, the one with Ge Ge Ge no Kitarou, the Macross, Lensman, and Harmageddon. Let me know much postage is to Canada, or you can ship it to my parents' place in Georgia, whichever... thanks!!

Re: Anime Girls: Then and Now
I think you're trying to draw a false equivalency here. Sure there are a couple Moe-type girls from the 70's or 80's, and some strong, well drawn female leads in anime from the last 10 years. That doesn't mean that there isn't a shitload more anime now about very young, very non-badass, and very bu...

Re: How much are VHS worth, really?
VHS is running $1 a tape in most thrift stores and used media stores. I've seen some places try to slap "collectible" prices on a few tapes, but then again I've seen comic book stores that are still selling 1990s vintage anime VHS with the original $29.95 price tags. Some backwoods flea ma...

Re: Anime Girls: Then and Now
I think that image says a lot more about whoever put it together than it does about the state of Japanese cartoons at any one point in time. It's a broad field. You can find examples of slutty male-gaze anime females from 1970 and wholesome strong females from 2012, or vice versa.

Re: Hello~
Not to derail the thread, but I want to echo _D_'s sentiments as to the vital part the ladies played in the early days of anime fandom. My earliest exposure to films like Castle Cagliostro, Space Cobra, and Dagger Of Kamui was in a room party held at an Atlanta Fantasy Fair in 1984 by three Florida ...
