Re: Rumiko Takahashi to start new manga Spring 2019
I wish she'd do something with a clear ending in mind. Maison Ikkoku is bar none her best, by a huge margin IMHO. The others just drag. One day I'll go through Urusei Yatsura. About 2/3 through Ranma TV.

Re: Ghibli Fest 2019
Took my kid to see Howl's the other day. His Japanese is better than his English, so we went for subtitled. Good stuff. My first time. Some schmaltz but I enjoyed it.

Re: Animeigo got Megazone 23!
Here's a blurb I gave at shmups after watching part one a couple of years ago (for the 2nd time, but with a yuge gap in between years). Don't take it too seriously. ;) Comes off like I didn't like it but I did. Quite a bit actually! Megazone 23 Saw this one ages ago on subtitled, Nth generation VHS ...

Re: An index of prominent figures in the early anime fandom?
If your looking for people who translated manga/anime I can think of Neil Nadleman and Toshifumi Yoshida Neil is on LinkedIn. I actually reached out to him to ask him about a SciFi books (he has translated a few) but didn't hear back. Don't blame him though, people have to remind me on other sites ...

Re: Older fans – what is your take on anime and anime fandom today?
Way late to this party, but... I'm not really involved in fandom. In fact, I watch very little and none of it is new. The new stuff aesthetically just doesn't appeal to me and there's tons from the golden era I missed. So, that keeps me busy. I concur w/ most of what's said: it's just a different be...

Re: Daicon 4 (1983)- A fanfilm by the founders of gainax
I saw a comment on Youtube that summed it up well:
Basically everything up until 1983 is in there.

Re: Classic, repetitiveness, and 90s OVA
There is an argument fans make that says the fan home taping distribution of anime - and later the file-sharing distribution of anime - is what built the public interest in Japanese animation that led to the commercial anime industry in America. I don't think fan distribution of anime is the whole ...

Re: Mid-90's and earlier AMVs?
I have ingrained ELO's Twilight so closely with the Daicon IV film (and parodies like the Densha Otoko TV series) that it's hard for me to see that song with anything else  But that's a great video. Agreed, even though I technically saw this first! In fact it was one of my first VHS tapes, whi...

Re: Classic, repetitiveness, and 90s OVA
Late to this party, but OVAs were considered higher quality than TV until... probably the late 90s or so? Captain Tyler I I recall being one of the first TV shows that wowed people, animation quality-wise. But it was definitely not the norm. I got out of the hobby for the most part sometime around t...
