Re: Mid-90's and earlier AMVs?

ELO's Twilight / Time Stranger The guy that did the subtitle and the music video has a channel w/ some others . You can imagine what a treat something like that film subtitled w/ the vid was back in those days. Weird conversing with him in the comments some 25 years later. I need to watch this flic...

Re: Collecting anime film prints - Starzan!

Congrats -- that looks like an amazing find. Yeah, I was really surprised when it appeared and for a price I didn't have to think about. Nice unfaded color, as it had to be struck some time in probably the mid 90s (guessing) and film stock by that point had the chemistry worked out so it won't fade ...

Re: What are you Reading?

ironically I started reading Cobra recently. Only on #3 so far, so I have a ways to go. I did watch the show in the Spring and really dug it. Nice to remember a time when Japan had masculine heroes. :)

Re: Anyone here sort of give up on newer anime?

Yamato 2199 was great and the pieces seem to be falling into place with 2202. I thought Yuru Camp was swell and I'm looking forward to more of it. I just couldn't click w/ this. Started okay... then I just lost interest I guess. Maybe b/c it was too glossy for my liking. Plenty of old stuff (especi...

Bruce Carlson apparently had some late-life celebrity as the anime reviewer "Grumpy Jii-san": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PoXlh7PovVs
Super late to this game, but some 30 years later, I now have a face to put to the name (and SVHS tapes). His subs were high quality.

Re: What are you Reading?

Maison Ikkoku: Japanese wide edition.

Having timed episodes (back in the genlock days) I am very familiar even still w/ the TV show. Never read page one of the manga, til recently. Enough differences to hold my interest, I'd say. I'm on volume 4.

Re: Youtube video "We Have Accepted Mediocrity" snipet focusing on 80s anime

Read a few parts so far. Seems like sound arguments. One thing to note though - Japan, and specifically it's economy, has always been a black whole of logic. They've been saying it would crash and burn for ages, but quality of life there is still way better than most of the rest of the world -- bett...
