Re: Anyone ever used the anipike?

There is a part of me that is sad to see it go but I haven't visited in ages (probably back shortly after the design change). Glad that it is still available via the Wayback Machine, still, even just for posterity's sake. Every reason given though, makes sense for why it was shutdown.

Re: The science fiction/fantasy novels thread

I took a look at one of my bookshelves with a bunch of SF on it, I found yet another trilogy I started long ago. Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson. Red is the first of the Mars trilogy and about the first manned mission(s) to Mars, ultimately with the goal of setting up long-term research station and...

Re: The science fiction/fantasy novels thread

Here's the last sci-fi book I tried to read recently: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BrleDSgIIAAyg2K.jpg This book was awful and not just because it was advertised Libertarian propaganda. I put it down to re-read a book about East Germany. Before that, I read Face On The Horizon , a book my uncle has b...

Re: What are you Watching?

I managed to get some anime watching in while doing chores around the house and working from home a bit ago. Getting further into Aldnoah Zero which is making me think that the robot fan in me isn't dead. Been meaning to start Argevollen soon, too, as it comes highly recommended. I also started/trie...

Re: RIP - Aging Otakus No Longer With Us

Like usamimi, I didn't know Dan either but knew people who knew him. Kevin's piece that Dave linked is pretty endearing and there's a big take-away I found - But most importantly, be a “Big Dan” for someone else. If possible, be a “Big Dan” to as many people as you can. With all of the snark, self-r...

Re: Sega Saturn Love

Like Greg, I opted for the PlayStation over the Saturn but I knew a couple people who had them and they absolutely loved them (and certainly not for the wide selection of sports games). I'll admit, compared to Sony and even Nintendo, at the time, the software support was lacking from Sega but I'll a...

Re: Linux discussion

Heck, a day or even several hours is fine in between postings in my book! My desktop had a blown power supply. It had lasted me nearly 9 years and survived the move to Japan, in which only it, my hard drives, and the physical tower survived and I had to replace everything else (motherboard, cpu, ra...

Re: The Lucky Finds bragging thread

^Good to know, thanks, usamimi! Since this weekend is Anime Weekend Atlanta, I stopped by the Super Happy Fun Sell anime flea market this past Thursday after work. I wound up hitting a jack pot, that I never thought I would hit - 19 sequential volumes of Kyoujin no Hoshi, in Japanese for $20 bucks! ...

Re: Linux discussion

I figured that if there's a month between my last post in the thread, we can forgive double-posting, right? 許して下さい. Something came up and I'm thinking about going back to openSUSE. The laptop I have been meaning to load up Xubuntu's latest LTS on is now the target of upgrade. The plan is that I am g...

Re: The Lucky Finds bragging thread

So, I was a dummy and someone retweeted to my Twitter feed a Y!AJ link to a Daicon IV VHS with a limit of 12,000Y. I didn't save the link, I didn't immediately post it here. I've been looking for the LD+book set for a long time already and the only time I found one it was already over 150USD. I cons...
