Re: Gall Force - Your thoughts

Honestly, I found the follow on series to be a bit pre-programmed with the same basic lineup (and even mecha designs) between the Solenoids and Paranoids. The first series in my mind really set the tone. Each new OVA built off the previous one for a consistent storyline. So I'd suggest watching the ...

Re: RIP Guy Brownlee

The clock of life ticks on.

At some point, all of us are on our last tick.

We seldom know when that will be.

Godspeed.

Re: Gall Force - Your thoughts

Good observation.

I really like Eternal Story. I just about wore out that VHS tape I played it so much.

Stardust war was my next favorite - I used to have that on LD but when my LD died, I had to buy the DVD collection. The resolution is good either way, but the LD played soooo well.

Re: Gall Force - Your thoughts

I agree. I thought we'd get some more members weighing in here - Gall Force was one of the better translations that I have run into.

Re: Gall Force - Your thoughts

Really? I always felt Iczer 1 (I have the untranslated tape from Japan) was not as clear or good as Gall Force. Then again, I didn't see the similarity either, so maybe you have better perception than I do. Can you elaborate a bit on what you saw was similar? I'm not saying in any way you are incorr...

Gall Force - Your thoughts

I got hooked on Gall Force - BAD. At first by Wyvern's Web, where I used to get my anime. She sent me up the tape when I asked to her to send me something good. I watched that tape, untranslated, again and again and again. And when Gall Force 2 came out, I grabbed that. And when Gall Force 3 came ou...

Re: Netflix Live-action Cowboy Bebop opening dropped

I just watched (on Netflix) my first animated version of Cowboy Bebop.

And the feeling of deja vu was unmistakable. The live action basically could have been used to just about rotoscope the animation.

Re: How niche was mecha in America before Transformer?

I see. There was a price difference. I'd be paying $70 for a Bandai VF-1A.

A similar Transformers branded (Starfire) VF-1S was $39.95 at the same time.

So yes, there was a premium for toys from Japan.

Also, the toys from Japan shot missiles. The US toys did not due to safety concerns.

Re: How niche was mecha in America before Transformer?

It's a mixed bag. Star Wars stuff flew off the shelves. Other stuff (example: A large xenomorph from the Alien movie) that I remember seeing on our shelves at JC Penney's when I was a stockboy in the early 1980's - didn't sell, but if you bought one - oh boy, are they valuable now. Transformers were...
