Re: Some observations and questions about 80s cartoons

Along these lines, if any of you have memories of GI Joe (good or ill), I recommend episode 11 of season 5 of 'Community'.

Re: Did comics from other countries receive the same kind of "localization" as manga in the early days?

We all know how companies like TokyoPop brazenly change the content of the manga they localized, but I just wonder if comics like other countries such as Tintin and Lucky Luke were also treated like this? Or were they translated more faithfully to the originals? I know that across the pond in Europ...

Re: What would modern fandom have looked like without the sci-fi community connection?

Building on to the 'everything is inter-related', one of the biggest movie things nowadays is super hero comic books...which, in most peoples mind -IS- 'comic books'..(setting aside manga for right now). But if you go back to the 50s and earlier, 'super hero' were just one part of comic books, there...

Computer viewing

I am in the process of moving my computer around for a necessary upgrade/repair. While installing software again I thought I would ask what people use to watch their files? What programs do people use, and what formats are their computer based files in?

Somehow... I am not sure of my belief. But, I ...

Re: Oldschool OVAs You Wish Were Completed

Sonoda is too busy running his family candy shop of 400 years. Wow, I had go read up on that. I had no idea that's what he was doing these days! Crazy that a lifetime ago, the guy was basically defining the look of anime character designs for a whole generation. Now he's running an ancient candy sh...

Re: Other Japanese cultural imports?

The one in my bedroom contains a lot of books on film like ones on the old serials or my Tolkien books like The Silmarillion and others or the first edition Star Wars paperbacks or old scifi and fantasy books and pulps. I really need to c...

Re: Oldschool OVAs You Wish Were Completed

Well, there was a later Giant Robo TV series, wasn't there? I always thought the "preview" at the last episode of GR was more of a nod to its serial nature. Kinda like Star Wars starting at episode 4 originally--it was meant to evoke the feeling of old serials how you sort of jump in and ...

Re: Oldschool OVAs You Wish Were Completed

So many... lets see, the first one I think of is Giant Robo.. since at one point that was going to be 'Chapter 6' of the series, with chapter 7 being 'the tower of babel'. Next one is a little bit outside our normal range, 'Trinity Blood' just because it is -so- unfinished. First, the author was sim...
