Re: Rumiko Takahashi --- The Godmother of this forum

Not to derail, but the thinking back of comparisons to other (non-anime) shows in this thread reminded me of a really off-beat (but strangely intriguing) theory about Gilligan's Island. A long time back I heard that there's a theory about Gilligan's Island being a representation of Hell, with the ch...

Re: Rumiko Takahashi --- The Godmother of this forum

I can see why people might be frustrated for sticking out that long and getting an ending like THAT, but then I'd have to ask why you guys even stuck it out that long to begin with. For me, length is not an issue. (still reading One Piece which is well over 60 volumes, and followed various other se...

Re: Rumiko Takahashi --- The Godmother of this forum

Don't confuse objective with series setup. Sometimes you throw up a concept to create situations, not to "solve" the concept. I mean, look at Archie--the "objective" is that Archie must in theory choose between Betty or Veronica. Of course, by now, people have accepted that ther...

Re: The Lucky Finds bragging thread

Kenichi Sonoda was a super guest that drew for all his fans, and created pieces for the con shirt and fanzine. The "Priss in concert" sketch I desired took him like 90 seconds. While I love original Bubblegum Crisis, that Misty May is AWESOME! M. Kikuchi/K. Asamiya was a bit of a grump ab...

Re: Rumiko Takahashi --- The Godmother of this forum

I have to agree with greg. The big issue with Takahashi stuff is that you are given a setup that leads you to expect some sort of resolution, and that resolution NEVER comes. The reason I prefer manga over most American comics is that manga DOES end. There's LOTS of superhero books that SHOULD have ...

I'm honestly more impressed with his Commander Pixis (from Attack on Titan)

Re: The Latest Movies (Non-Anime) You Are Watching Right Now

There's significant padding that I'm not feeling, but that's not my big issue with the Hobbit "trilogy". My BIG issue with it is actually something you think is a strength, which is tying it too closely to LotR. "The Hobbit" obviously IS the precursor to "Lord of the Rings&q...

Re: Bani Garu: a webcomic from Lea Hernandez's year at Gaina

I do fondly remember the huge, epic, overblown anticipation for Gainax's "Follow-up" to Evangelion, which was, of course, Ebichu. Actually, their first "follow-up" to Evangelion was KareKano (aka: the guys behind Eva do shoujou high school romance), and it actually was pretty go...

Re: What are you Watching?

I've only watched the first two episodes (thanks to somebody on YouTube who will likely have his/her account terminated in the near future for copyright violations), but so far, I like it! I first learned about this show from finding the plastic model of the ship. The characters are interesting, th...

I remember that one. There's a few little tweaks I'd like to make, but it's a great concept and well executed.
