Re: What are you Watching?

You must've forgotten about Tochiro kid, which from the episodes ive seen she a plot point to be in the most dangerous situations around incompetent child care people to be in harms way ALL THE DAMN TIME! And her lesson from Harlock, whenever he has to save her is "Stay in the orphanage, you c...

Re: What are you Watching?

Maybe also watching all of this in the span of like three weeks was too concentrated a form of Yamato. Probably would have been better to spread it out more. I was actually debating if I should watch GE999 or Harlock, as I've never seen a frame of either. :) I can't imagine a 105 episde TV show not ...

Re: What are you Watching?

So I finally wrapped up the original run of the Yamato franchise, by which I mean (viewed in this order) Space Battleship Yamato (TV Series) Space Battleship Yamato (Compilation Movie) Farewell to Space Battleship Yamato: In the Name of Love (Movie) Space Battleship Yamato 2 (TV Series) Space Battle...

Re: Anyone here sort of give up on newer anime?

The fire hose of anime is so intense and more accessible than ever that as a consequence it's really not that hard to find moe-less shows. I'm not sure how accurate the following actually is, but when I think of moe overload I think more of the 2000s than the current decade. I stepped away from mode...

Re: What are you Reading?

I've been reading through the old WSJ tankobons of Cobra and just finished up (volume 8) where the TV series leaves off. I didn't track the changes too closely as it's been a while since I watched the TV series but the changes are mostly minor. The TV series by and large is fairly faithful. I think ...

Re: Collecting anime film prints - Starzan!

I'm amazed you got a good price (though I don't know much about the market for this stuff) on a Ghibli print, nice! Very surprising that someone would let this go. I'm also envious of all the space you must have to be able to engage with such a hobby  ; I was thinking about a small vinyl collec...

Whoops, I meant to say I had found some old article published in 2002.

Re: everything you never needed to know about Roman Albums

I'd pay money for a complete electronic collection of these old treasures. I'm trying to keep my physical collecting in check to preserve shelf space. When I was trying to find an English resource to explain what a Roman Album was, I had found some old article in 2002. Now I can just link to this, s...

Re: Why watch older anime?

these days, there are very few circumstances where I would pitch an anime show to someone without some kind of prior context. Maybe if I knew they were into a thing by a creator, and I knew of another show by that creator, I might say "Hey, you like Gundam, have you seen Zanbot 3?" or som...
