Re: The Lucky Finds bragging thread

During a college break back in the early 90's, I stopped in a (now long gone) comic book shop in the Ohio town where my grandparents lived. I asked the owner if he had anything "like manga" from Japan, which prompted him to look in a back room. He came back with a mint copy of the MACROSS ...

Re: Newtype Magazine - What was your first experience....

Some favorite layouts from what I call the "otaku databooks" that were included in special issues, like the 5-year anniversary ones. Readers could see what was popular each year, on the covers, and in the calendars. Collector merchandise was photographed, and summer events detailed. One of...

Re: Show us your shitajiki (pencil boards)!

I collected pencil boards to have something con guests could autograph, and because they were affordable compared to cels.
Here are just the ones autographed over the years. I have an UTENA movie one with sigs too, but the metallic ink pens used that session ended up smearing a bit.

Re: Sega Dreamcast Love

A few months ago I replaced my long gone DC console at a new "retro gaming" store in Columbus, OH. Celebrating the new arrival are my sega gashapon gals. Indeed it is hard to find many titles now, if you want to spend under $25. The shop didn't even have an upgraded video cable for S-Video...

Re: Newtype Magazine - What was your first experience....

All those posters above are available for purchase btw... Now to show some pics of the NT dvds that shipped with some of the last issues I collected in 2002. The blue one featured a review of Studio BROCCOLI productions like Aquarian Age and DiGi Carat. On the dvd were some episodes of the latter. T...

Re: Newtype Magazine - What was your first experience....

Here is a montage of loose posters still taking up space. Not shown are a couple horizontal layouts of Borgman and Saiyuki, some ubiquitous Gundam.
I'd say you could only count on a really nice poster half of the time.

Re: Newtype Magazine - What was your first experience....

I collected about ten years worth of Newtype from various sources back in the 90's. I still have most of the better inserts and posters, but the issues themselves needed a better home. Last year, I donated them to Ohio State's Billy Ireland Cartoon Museum, which actually has a considerable amount of...

Re: The Days of Anime Hasshin

*digs out surviving issues*

The back cover of issue 41, a Jubei Ninpucho illustration, is mine.
Issue 32 shows a BGC hardsuit creation (pg 20) I drew, and a Marionette Generation sketch on pg 38.
I also wrote a short blurb about the GitS manga when it was an import (Issue 33).
