Re: What are you Watching?
Just picked up some old VHS tapes that were still factory-sealed for $1 each, and one of them was an anime called Variable Geo, so I'll try giving that a watch this evening. Variable Geo is based on a fighting game series with all-female characters, so don't expect too much from it! I enjoyed...

Re: What are you Watching?
I tried watching the first episode of the Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan. I was intrigued because Ikuko Itoh (one of my fave Sailor Moon animators) did the character designs, but they aren't really anything special. And the anime itself was boring. Minori Chihara's voice...is so forgettable, eve...

Re: What are you Watching?
I watched the first part of Scramble Wars (the SD special featuring all the Artmic characters at the time). It hugely influenced the way I draw SD/Chibi characters, and since I've been doing a lot of that lately, I figured I would show X-Kid Z. We decided to hold off on the Gall Force special, becau...

Re: Stuff about the golden old days you're glad are now gone
The collector's market for comics. All those people buying up every new comic in the hopes that their issue #1 would be worth something, and not even reading the comic. I remember having to beat people to the comic store every Wednesday in order to get any copy of Jim Lee X-Men comics or Todd McFar...

Re: Stuff about the golden old days you're glad are now gone
Poofy hair. Geometric shapes in loud colors. Floppy, baggy clothes. <--I actually still like these, haha! I think I miss more about the old days than being glad certain things are gone. The assumption that everything is violent or adult in anime. Although now it's like all the "manime&qu...

Re: Anime stores
My local "anime shops" when I was young was actually comic book shops, and Suncoast Video. When I lived in Tacoma, WA, there wasn't anime specific shops, but there were a ton of places to buy anime. My go-to comic shop was called "Lady Jayne's Comics". She offered subscriptions o...

Re: What are you Watching?
Yeah, that's where I saw Tobira o Akete, another "girl sucked into a fantasy world" anime I mentioned here a while back. I don't think he's uploaded anything in a few months, though, so who knows if he's still checking his youtube account for messages. He replied to my message. He is the ...

Re: What are you Watching?
I re-watched Urusei Yatsura: Beautiful Dreamer with X-Kid Z (since he hadn't seen it, or UY). I wanted to read it because there was a Mamoru Oshii interview online that I wanted to read about his experience working on Beautiful Dreamer, that was copied down from the OOP DVD. Toradora! *sigh* Another...
