Re: Apollo Smile!!!1!1!1

Well, she's 49 now -- even in Japan that's probably a little too old to continue as an idol singer. (^_^;) Running a dance school seems like a good career shift. http://pre02.deviantart.net/45ea/th/pre/i/2011/152/3/2/apollo_smile_autograph_by_rydias-d3htkpq.jpg Maybe something fun, an autographed ph...

Ardith Carlton interview on fandom in the early 80s

The folks over at the Anime World Order did an interview with her a couple years ago: http://www.awopodcast.com/2015/01/anime ... orrow.html

Re: Fansub morality/preservation/industry talk

What do you think of modern fansubbing as opposed to fansubbing in the past like in the 80s or 90s? The biggest split has been that "fan typesetting" (fansetting?) has been slowly replacing the traditional idea of fansubbing. Instead of fansubbers looking to create original translations o...

The River City Ransom series

http://i.imgur.com/pTDXJXM.jpg I was a big fan of those games as a kid. Well, mostly River City Ransom and Nintendo World Cup (I was so surprised when I noticed that they had the same characters -- it wouldn't be until later than I learned they were from the same series in Japan.) http://i.imgur.co...

What's between Old School and New School?

I don't count as Old School. I was watching dubs of The Noozles on Nickelodeon while I imagine most of you were out founding the first college clubs, or maybe even narrating raw tapes from a script at the local C/FO chapter meeting. During the mid-90s I browsed rec.arts.anime through a connection at...

Re: Do you feel that older anime is better

I like the more fluid and gratuitous animation of the 80's. It was a golden age for animation budgets. Some of the most incredible scenes had rotating backgrounds, which had to cost a fortune. You'll never see that today. I have actually seen a few rotating backgrounds recently, as CG has made them...

Re: Cheap anime how long can it last

The reason behind it, strangely enough, is anime politics. Chinese companies have become interested in anime, and have been spending a lot of money trying to buy their way onto into Japanese production committees. In order to accept the money without losing political control over the process, the C...

Re: Cheap anime how long can it last

I found a blog post that tries to understand it from the Japanese end: https://blog.sakugabooru.com/2016/12/27/anime-craft-weekly-25-decrypting-anime-production/ https://blog.sakugabooru.com/2017/01/02/anime-financials-2016/ Right now they are stretched pretty thin in Japan, it looks like. The reaso...
