Re: What are you Watching?
I finally gave in to curiosity and watched the live action Battle Angel. I don't remember the short OVAs too well, but I knew some elements unseen in the original would be in the movie, however... I can't believe Alita's facial design made it past screen test uno. I think the CG team liked that ICE ...

Re: Katsuhiro Otomo to be guest of honor at Anime Expo 2019
ACEN is Chicago. I referenced it because, like NYC Comic Con, it's a convention outside the West Coast that employs the 'Buy x amount of goods for an autograph' policy that is so popular here. The autographs I managed to get at ACEN last month didn't necessitate a merchandise purchase. Sure, you ha...

I also see designer Sadamoto on the guest list; that pair is a major magnet for oldtaku attendees.

Re: Convention Appearances 2019
I had several twitter followers try to snag me one of the posters they were giving out, but those seem to have gotten snapped up pretty quickly, alas. At the Bean Bandit panel last year they also sold a ($20) promotional poster, which I think is the better of the two. I like how it was a combo of t...

Re: Convention Appearances 2019
After returning through a rainstorm that was like Lake Erie being flipped over onto the highway, I will present my short report on ACEN 2019. It will be focused on guest panels and signings, since there wasn't enough time to accomplish more. Now that our one popular midwest con is considered "B...

Re: Convention Appearances 2019
Because it drove us insane last year, ACEN is distributing autograph tickets one at a time again. Effectually, this means you must rejoin the ticket line if there are multiple signings to attend in one day. Or, you gamble on there being enough time to be included after attendees with tickets go ahea...

Re: battlin' fandoms
Thankfully we started our own conventions, and most of these comic-Sf-fantasy conventions vanished. The ones that stuck around are still doing the same 1200 attendees every year, still presenting the same programming to the same graying, Rascal-scooter-riding audience. And that's not to say that we...

RIP Sir!
Lone Wolf and Cub was the manga I started with back in the late 80s (with issues still boxed in my closet). I had to get it by mail order since I lived in a wasteland with no comic/game shops. I should acquire the rest of Crying Freeman.

Convention Appearances 2019
Share your plans for jumping back into the wait lines for noisy days of deculture! I still have some energetic cells after thirty years of this hobby so I'll be on the road at least once. I know some events (like early Katsucon) have already passed, but many more await us and our credit cards. Since...

Re: Evangelion coming to Netflix! Spring 2019!
To this generation, Evangelion is just some old anime show with a whiny protagonist that today's 30-40 year olds were into back in the late 90s. NFLIX Producer: Lots of kids watched that Killing-la-Kills cartoon...now we need something to hook the paying parents. Damn Full House actress scandal is ...
