Re: Anime Girls: Then and Now

It's hard to say. Character designs certainly have changed, so even if you took the least "loli" anime made in, say, 2012, they still look quite different from stuff made in the 1980s. I find that Sunrise and Bones' shows usually strike a nice balance between being modern while "still...

Re: What are you Watching?

My favourite anime of the 2000s was *technically* a magical girl show--Princess Tutu. When all was said and done, it met almost all the requirements of what constitutes, in my opinion, a top anime show. Good direction, excellent music (a no brainer since it's made up of classical music, much of it b...

Re: Hello~

Anime Web Turnpike was really pretty big at one time, wasn't it? Personally, I hung out on usenet and animeondvd in the late 90s and early 2000s.

I was a devotee of Animerica until every other issue they did was about Pokemon.

Re: What is this from? [NSFW GIF INSIDE]

I have one of the Dunbine volumes and the picture quality of the ADV release is not great. Certainly a far cry from Bandai's Mobile Suit Gundam and Zeta Gundam DVDs, or CPM's Votoms re-release.

Re: What Japanese films are you watching today?

Japanese film today is definitely not as large and vibrant as they were in the 50s, 60s and 70s. There are still good Japanese films being made today, but you have to know where to look. I find the South Korean film industry has lapped both Japan and China when it comes to output and quality.

Re: What Japanese films are you watching today?

Currently making my way through the Silent Naruse set Criterion put out. I kind of wish they got some more mature period Naruse, and not just stopped at When a Woman Ascends the Stairs. There's so much from his library to choose from. Meanwhile, Criterion can't seem to release enough of Ozu these da...

Re: Old Anime VS New Anime

I feel like Madoka was made specifically for those anime fans who hopped on the anime bandwagon during the early 2000s. Those fans tended to consume everything in sight (at least, everything post 1998), and chances are, a large majority of those shows were "moe" shows and during this time ...

Is it Aura Battler Dunbine? Looks like an ending credits animation sequence.

Re: Hello~

Back around 1993-1994-ish, I did see some female seniors in my high school carrying around and swapping Ranma 1/2 tapes from time to time. I'd always assumed that Takahashi's stuff was pretty popular with females even as far back as when I was 13. Takahashi may have a tendency for repetition and mon...

Re: Hello~

Hey Chevi. It seems with with a lot of us anime fans, we were usually the driving force in getting our friends to watch them, but as you said, they were never as into it as we were, and they eventually grow out of it as friends do when they get older and move on with their lives. I still watch most ...
