Re: Eras of Anime
I think with regards to anime, terms like "classic" and "modern" are essentially moving goal posts as classic always seems to be fixed somewhere between 20 and 30 years before and modern is usually the last 3 - 5 years to current. And I think it's been that way a long time. In th...

Re: anime con room parties of the past
Great article and really captures an aspect of the fandom that, I feel, is seldom discussed. It is probably because as you noted, it was something lifted from some of the old sci-fi con days and at least in my experience isn't something that translates well without someone physically doing all the w...

Re: Boston Japanimation Society newsletter uploads
Very cool to see these! Very interesting in that 1984 issue looking at those long running series and how Sazae-san was ignored even in the early days.

I really liked your Anime from 1983 Let's Anime article, I'd love to see the panel, too. That Classic Anime Afternoon sounds like fun, too. Have a good show!

Re: What did old-school fans think about digital fansubs?
I did a lot of copying and trading of VHS fansubs, and helped out on a few of the CPF releases. In terms of the scarcity of fansubs, or the ability to replace lost fansub tapes, well, generally you got that fansub from someone you knew. If a dog ate that tape of the Patlabor movie fansub, or if you...

Re: Let's Anime: the anime films of 1983
Great write up as usual - looking just at the films released during the year is a good way to get variety of content but also keep things at a very manageable length. 1983 feels like a jam packed year - all the films, lots going on on TV and the start of the OAV format. FINAL Yamato is quite the end...

Re: What did old-school fans think about digital fansubs?
Yea digital archiving is more important now than ever. Archive.org can only do so much and yet it does quite alot. What worries me about archive.org is the fact that its a great hub for people to upload old fansubs, dubs and etc (Mike Toole uses it to uplaod old dubs) but the other side of that swo...

Yeah, they must have tried to save a few bucks using the duplicators with dirty heads.

Re: What did old-school fans think about digital fansubs?
I'm probably not the right person for this because I've been kind of perpetually online since my teens (in my forties now) but I knew then as I know now, the idea that "the Internet never forgets" is quite a myth. It is probably better understood that once something is shared on the Intern...
