What caused the C/FO to fall apart?
I see a lot of fingers pointed to Randall Stukey of C/FO San Antonio, but it seems strange that a national organization spanning multiple states and even countries could come crashing down due to the efforts of one man by himself. Is there a larger story here? Was the disbanding of the C/FO inevitab...

New-school AMVs based off old-school anime?
While my personal favorite style of AMV uses the extended versions of songs from the OST (like this one for Akira: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77zU5JMOqUg) not every vintage anime has a soundtrack that has aged equally well. (^_^;) I like to believe that new-school AMVs can help break through th...

Looks like they've got issues of the Earth Defense Command's NOVA, C/FO Sacramento and San Antonio, a few other things. (^_^)

Re: James Lick of tcp.com
That's true! It was originally hosted at Ohio State by Marijan Adam while he was a student there, but network traffic got so high that it couldn't be hosted there anymore, so TCP stepped in. (^_^) Those CD copies of the Venice archive are probably why it all exists archived today. Kinda like how a l...

Re: Jay Fubler Harvey post-AniPike
I knew that he left or sold AniPike but I didn't think that he "retired" from fandom. Anyone know a source where he might have said why? He mentioned it in passing in his old blog. Not sure if he ever went into more detail: When I started my current job, I referred to my whole anime/manga...

Re: What's between Old School and New School?
Shows like Ranma 1/2 and Dragonball Z were at the forefront of my first few years of fandom, so I can immediately bond with other fans over those shows. Most of those fans are probably around my own age, plus or minus a few years (DBZ really skews things though). However, go up a few years when we ...

Re: Rik Wall of Tacoma's Anime Cafe
Finding info about his old partner Jack Blazkiewicz has been a bit trickier... it looks like during the mid-2000s he went pro, working for RJP-Pro, one of those localizers and importers that popped up during the anime boom (they licensed Tenbatsu Angel Rabbie and did dub script timecoding for JoJo's...

Rik Wall of Tacoma's Anime Cafe
I'm guessing "Where are they now" posts go in Off-Topic, as they are not related strictly to the 90s-era fandom. (^_^) Anime Cafe was one of Washington State's first dedicated anime stores, and was an incubator for the group that would create Sakura-con in Seattle. Rik Wall is on Twitter, ...

I really liked Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi, and while the stor...

Fred Ladd was a key figure in bringing over old-school shows like Astro Boy and Gigantor way back when. (^_^)
