Re: Convention Appearances 2018
Looks like I'll be going to ACEN as well. The guest list, combined with the fact that I had to already reserve the time off work to go to Animazement, made it worth it. My friend's company, Sekai Project, are the ones bringing over Yokota and Yoshimatsu. They'll probably have commission slots. Inde...

Re: Convention Appearances 2018
I just finished reserving attendance at Anime Central, after seeing the much improved GoH list this year. Since the announcement of K.Sonoda's new project, coordinated with ACEN, the con has invited Kikuko Inoue, Mamoru Yokota, Takahiro Yoshimatsu and some "new gen" artists. It has been 14...

Re: NEW Gunsmith Cats anime short to premiere at ACEN 2018
Its like someone at ACEN remembers what their con was like 20 years ago. I'm also optimistic about this team making a continuation. Maybe after the con they can pitch GSC to Netflix and get some $$

Re: Convention Appearances 2018
There aren't too many events listing Japanese GoHs right now, although the pair announced for Anime NEXT interest me. I'd like to talk mecha with Aramaki and Kamiyama, being a fan since the ARTMIC days. A good chance at 2+ autographs is what it takes to motivate this middle-aged otaku ;) The 500 mil...

"Newtype-Style" New Year Calendar
Spent a minute in photoshop to make a 2018 half-year calendar like NT offered way back when.
The dates are stolen from the 2001 copy, and I picked the return of CCS for the artwork (postcard illo). The new series will give you the feels.
Maybe I should make one as desktop wallpaper...

Re: Relating to younger fans...
At the same time, I enjoy being around to remind everyone that Japanese cartoons didn't just spring forth out of thin air sometime in 2009. Amen. I think I'll try to take part in a local college event in the Spring - vend some of my museum-grade stuff just taking up space. Maybe I'll put something ...

Re: What are you Watching?
After a long pre-order wait, I received some of the new Ghibli movies issued by GKIDS instead of Disney. I appreciate copies without any magic kingdom dressing, and a lower price. The easy reading subs don't catch every word, but that is to be expected. I don't have multi-channel audio for testing t...

Re: RIP, Hiromi Tsuru
Way too many shocking obits for VAs these past few years. KOR, DBZ, and Ranma fans are going to be despondent over Ms Tsuru's passing. I probably heard her work first in either Macross or Gall Force, but her modest yet cloying role as Asuna from MI is what I recall best. /old club never showed KOR o...

Re: Reddit discovers rec.arts.anime
I get a nervous chuckle from the readers that seem amazed how old fans wrote like 40-somethings. If you wanted to circulate an opinion about anime, the normal way was still to get a proper article into a zine. The bastardization of grammar didn't arrive with the first modems. I do recall avoiding so...

Re: Hayama & Yokota at Youmacon
Based on your other posts about sketch fees and auctions, those numbers sound reasonable. Unfortunately, needing to stay at the event for more than one day (either for late night panels or commission waiting) is what I can't swing this time. I can only conclude that the boggling schedule had to plea...
