Re: Relating to younger fans...

I absolutely agree, like I said, in wanting to be a contributor in some way, than anything else when going to conventions. On some level, I can freely admit that I feel better if I can "justify" going, by doing a panel or helping out with the program guide or anything else, given the high ...

Re: Relating to younger fans...

I can understand what's been said, on some level; at 33, there's still a decent amount of stuff I'm interested in at anime conventions, be it older shows or more recent series that I'm watching. I've noticed not as many panels with voice actors, domestic or otherwise in recent years, as well as more...

Re: Babel Con '82 TV ad -

That's awesome; thanks so much for posting it! It does say a lot, in that having a television commercial was probably a significant expense for a local convention (then, and now) and still they decided that a Starblazers mini-con was worth mentioning in the limited amount of time they had for the ad...

Re: Trailer up for IG's LOTGH

Thank you for posting this! I'd have to agree with your assessment, particularly regarding the character designs. The great thing about the original series was the multitude of characters; a rough part about the original series....was the multitude of characters, many with similar names to one anoth...

San Diego Comic Con 2017

Hey everybody! I just got back from this year's San Diego Comic-Con, where I was moderating a panel on the interconnected histories of pulp magazines and comic books. I came across a few items in the Exhibit Hall/Dealer's Room, anime or Japanese cinema-related - or rather, there were a bunch, but wi...

Re: Fansub tape labels?

That was a great article, and really cool to hear that the author was a part of Kodocha - I've read his articles for years now, but didn't know that. Those "purple Barney tapes", oh how I still have plenty of those packed up somewhere. I'd say Kodocha was probably the fansubber I went to m...

Awesome article! I actually read it last month, but didn't realize who the author was, until just now seeing your post! Great work, and congratulations!

Re: Gerald Jones arrested

A little late to this thread, per my long (at this point probably expected) absences; but, this situation came as quite a shock, to a number of people, myself included. I actually didn't read any of his VIZ work, but rather grew up reading his comics when he wrote for DC Comics, and later his works ...

Re: Gauging interest for Legend of The Galactic Heroes novels

Yeah! I picked up my copy the other day, and I was really happy to see that notice about the fourth book. I was under the impression that they would get the series in bulk, three or so volumes at a time, so I'm thinking that hopefully we have several more volumes on the way!

Sci-Fi Buzz Segment from Anime Expo 1996

I found this not too long ago while researching some fandom history - does anyone else remember watching this show? It was a great program, both the news segments but also the occasional commentary by Harlan Ellison. Great footage of what anime conventions looked, and really felt like, in the late 9...
