Hmmm...and yet, Mitt Romney is running for pres. His London trip was laughable. I can't believe he is the party rep! Ai yi yi!

As for the mayor of Tokyo...I read about him in my bud's blog. I guess he hits a chord with enough people to keep getting reelected. Isn't politics just wonderful no matter which side of the ocean you are on?!

well the thing is that mitt isn't trying to destroy the anime and manga industry....normally i could care less what some politician o the other is saying or doing but in this case it is at the heart of what this site is about anime and manga....and he seems to be able to get away with ...
well stuff like this....so it makes me worry about the future of anime and manga ...in japan ...a lot of it is already being shipped to Korea and china for work to be done on it ....how much longer till it leaves japan completely....

generally i don't care what the mayor of another city thinks or does but his hatred towards anime and manga is another thing...as the governor of tokyo he has a huge influence on the anime and manga industry...his edicts have already impacted the industries negatively...although he does like to love ru darkness and k-on so we can look forward to all anime and manga being either hentai or light fluff...and this is from a person who believes his under aged rape novels should be protected speech as they are literature....where as anime and manga deserve no free speech protection...

well as a resident of the us who may never get a chance to travel to japan it really isn't ...normally my thing to get down on the government of other nations ...but as a fan of anime and some manga his decrees are destructive of what is an art form that is unique and i would conceder it a cultural loss for the nation of japan not to mention the economic loss...especially now when there is so much bad economic news all over...

I can remember all the fuss about Ordinance 156 back in 2010 and 2011 and I was curious to see what kind of changes it would deliver to the anime/manga world. As near as I can figure the only change has been more labelling of adult material, which I don't have a problem with anyway.

There was some world-class fan entitlement going on over that ordinance, not to mention doom and gloom scenarios aplenty.

What's funny is that I've known Kanemitsu for a while, and I have an APA blog he wrote back in 1989 about something called "Comiket" and how the authorities were going to start cracking down on something called "doujinshi" because of its adult content. Strangely enough, adult dojin have continued to be available in large quantities for the past twenty, twenty-five years.

I knew Dan when he used to live in Minny (Minneapolis). My long time friend Tim Fay introduced me to him Gawd knows how long ago. I had been doing rooms at the Minneapolis Comic Con for a number of years. Tim was the first person I met at a comic shop (Dave Mruz's as I recall) and we became good friends. We remain so though he has never met me in Thunder Bay where I live. I always went across to Minny. I also met people like Reed Waller and Kate Worley at cons on both sides of the border. I have video of them I shot at a con in '92 I've been meaning to post. Oddly enough, I never met Neil Gaiman in all the years he was down there.

one of the problems with the laws is not the official enforcement ...which is about nil....but the self censoring that the producers are doing...

Ishihara has always been like this. And even after the recent elections, his successor will continue to follow his path. Funny thing is gaijin are vocal but when you talk to some young Japanese adults...most of the people I know don't care about politics and think the problems in Japan are much more higher up than Ishihara.
