Gerald Jones arrested

Post by usamimi »

If you read Viz titles back in the day, you might recognize the name Gerald Jones. He adapted translations into scripts for many Viz comics in the late 80s & throughout the 90s, including Ranma 1/2 & Dragon Ball. Though nowadays he's more well known for his American comic work as well as nonfiction writing.

But I was stunned to hear that he was recently arrested. Not for something small, either. http://www.kanzenshuu.com/2017/01/07/au ... y-charges/

Not something I ever expected to hear, that's for sure...

Yeah, I read about that elsewhere... the posting it on youtube, and the descriptions of -what- it was....
I mean, I know sometimes anime or other things can be confused with child porn, but the things he had... brrrrr....

Gotta admit, I didn't know what comics he did until I checked.

I remembered his name mostly from being on the Ranma 1/2 floppy comics all the time. I never did follow his stuff outside of manga, but apparently he was well regarded in the comic world before this happened.

Yeah the description of what he was doing made me  too. I dunno how he thought he was gonna get away with uploading that stuff to YouTube......I mean, they won't even let me upload a Kimagure Orange Road opening! ;p

Well goof on me, there's more than 2, since I learned that after posting that.

Interesting enough I got a stack of the AnimEigo VHS tapes from that show on my shelf I got a comic/video game/arcade store in north Myrtle Beach last week. It's not complete but its a good chunk of most of the series. It's got the collection spine where you can make images out of them like the DBZ tapes they used to put out. It's on my "to watch shelf" of other never ending "to watch" items I have. This is why I don't touch streaming much.

A little late to this thread, per my long (at this point probably expected) absences; but, this situation came as quite a shock, to a number of people, myself included. I actually didn't read any of his VIZ work, but rather grew up reading his comics when he wrote for DC Comics, and later his works of comic and popular culture history were excellent resources of information when I began writing, myself.

I've met him a few times, and was on a panel with him at last year's San Diego Comic Con. A few folks I know have known him for years, and it's been a rough go for them the last few months, but of course nothing compared to what the family, and any alleged victims, have been going through. I hope it all goes as well as something as horrible as this can go, for anyone and everyone involved.
