What stuff besides Ranma do you discuss?

It hasn't come up yet (since I think primarily people have been following me for Ranma) but basically anything I was into back then._D_ wrote:What stuff besides Ranma do you discuss?
I made a post of the many other fandoms I may discuss from time to time, if anyone has a series or topic they'd like to see me cover, I'm up for suggestions.

Now following your tumblr. A daily dose of Ranma is just what the doctor ordered.

You should have a fight on your blog between Maison Ikkoku and Kimagure Orange Road.

Oh man, unfortunately I don't think I would have much cred on either series. Since Kimagure is rare and I hardly saw or even read most of it, and there's a lot of MI I haven't touched either, it wouldn't be fair for me to compare or pit them against eachother. XD; But I will keep that in mind in the future when I have read and watched both series. Which I fully intend to do.danth wrote:You should have a fight on your blog between Maison Ikkoku and Kimagure Orange Road.

It's a great show! Ranma was the first anime I saw in Japanese, uncut, with dodgy white 8-bit style subtitles you could barely read over the footage of the animation. xD It was so globally appealing, slapstick hilarity and ridiculous plots. Great charaterisation. We were rumoured to have it released in the UK when the US dub came out, but we never saw any TV series. We got the films in the early 2000s on DVD, but by them IMO it was far too late! I think prissy Victorian sensibilities about nudity probably ruined that. People would have called it porn (without even watching it), I'm sure.
The art style (especially the OAV style by Atsuko Nakajima) was very influential on me, I loved it for the longest time.
Also, people think Inuyasha is part of the big three by Rumiko Takahashi. But nay, they are mistaken.
...The "Takahashi Big Three" are blatantly Urusei Yatsura // Maison Ikkoku // Ranma 1/2, and in that order.
Edit :: Ohh Kimagure Orange Road is amazing. It's about 48 eps, then 6 or so high quality OAVs, then the killer "I Want to Return To That Day" movie. TEARS. ALL THE CRYING with that love triangle resolution after all those episodes. I found it genuinely heartbreaking. (Just ignore the 2000s Summer's Beginning film, it's rubbish.) Akemi Takada (as you know) - UY's character designer and KOR's chara designer too. Both animated by Studio Pierrot (UY's first four series.)

YES! It makes me sad that most anime/manga fans today know nothing of these series, either. The fact that newer vols of Ranma here in the states have "FROM THE CREATOR OF INUYASHA!" stickers on them makes me want to cry.PinkAppleJam wrote: Also, people think Inuyasha is part of the big three by Rumiko Takahashi. Oh man, YES. KOR is one of my favorites. I know a lot of people today don't like it because of how indecisive or even spineless Kyosuke acted at times, but I feel like that's...kind of accurate, given that they're all KIDS, and you do stupid crap when you're a kid, lol. It holds a special place in my heart, even though the movie, like you said, is so ridiculously sad.PinkAppleJam wrote:Edit :: Ohh Kimagure Orange Road is amazing. Madoka is always going to be one of my favorite anime characters. She's just amazing and kick-ass, but still very feminine. I always loved that about her!

Aw yeeah, as "Madoka The Pick". xD Killer lady. She was so frosty. She was as capricious as Kyosuke, to be fair! So yes I agree with you and not the viewers put off by the wishy-washyness, I guess that was the point of it being so "kimagure" after all! And I think people really forget what first love/crushes can be like?!
Haha I did a post on Tumblr about "when you say Madoka I don't want none of your Majica shit" and posted lots of KOR art; people thought I was being all mean xD
...I wasn't. (OR WAS I?!1)

HAHa, I think that was one of the first things I ever reblogged on Anime Nostalgia! I thought it was hilarious. (AND TRUE! >D)PinkAppleJam wrote:Aw yeeah, as "Madoka The Pick". xD Killer lady. But yeah, I mean "Kimagure" literally means "Capricious"! I think people forget that sometimes. That was one of the whole points of the series, imo. I mean, if I had 2 different cute girls fawning over me when I was in school, I probably would've made some dumb decisions, too!

I've always wanted to see the series unedited and uncut. I know Viz didn't "censor" them in anyway but later knowing that episodes were swapped and all the original title cards were replaced with photoshops and what not, I really want to see it how it was originally intended now.PinkAppleJam wrote:It's a great show! Atsuko Nakajima's style is pretty much my main influence for drawing. I save anything online that's hers, and have artbooks and settei she's done. I love her that much.
And yes, I was never into Inuyasha, I loved the original big three, and it will always be that way for me.
I've seen some of Kimagure Orange Road, but not enough. Just the one VHS my Suncoast had, and the ADV movie.
